Do you know anything about the history of quarterback play in the NFL?? Why don't you look up the stats for some of the all time greats in their first 20 starts. Terry Bradshaw and John Elway are two you can start with.
If you wish to try to make that argument, you do the research... I'll be right here, and can promise you an interesting rebuttal... it will involve all the quarterbacks between that time and now that put up bad numbers in their first 20 starts, and did NOT go on to become Hall of Famers... I'll likely be able to come up with a list of 20 or 30 QBs for every Hall of Famer you can come up with...
But you'll have to excuse me right now, as I go indulge in a hearty laugh at you comparing Jason Campbell to Bradshaw and Elway... first off, Bradshaw put up some really LOUSY career numbers, with a quarterback rating of 70.9... he never had a single season rating as high as 90... he averaged 170.6 yards per game passing, and 51.9 per cent completions... he had almost exactly as many ints as he had TD passes (212 TDs, 210 ints)...
Bradshaw does not deserve to be in the HOF, period... the Steelers won because of the Steel Curtain and Franco Harris... if Campbell doesn't get any better than THAT, he won't be in the league another 2 or 3 years...
As for Elway, he wasn't really very good for TEN years... he never completed 60 per cent of his passes, or put up a quarterback rating as high as 90, until then... in those 10 years, he completed 53.5 per cent of his passes, and again, threw almost exactly as many ints as TD passes (158 to 157)...
Somehow, I don't see the Skins giving Campbell 10 years to reach his full potential... LOL...
After 20 starts in the NFL, we have a pretty fair idea of Jason Campbell's strengths and limitations... among other things, we know that he's a turnover machine... experience might cut down on that a bit, but it's unlikely that he'll every beat that problem altogether...
And given his rep as a slow study, a rep that goes back to his college game, every time the Skins bring in a new coaching staff, a new offense, Campbell will need a couple-three years to adequately grasp it... which won't be a problem, if Gibbs and Saunders stick around for the rest of his career, but how likely is that to happen??
No sir, I'm not impressed AT ALL by Jason Campbell... to me, his max potential is to someday reach mediocrity...
