MossBurner said:I think you misunderstood me. My meaning was that I am not a Commanders employee, much less a member of the coaching staff. I.E. I do not know to what extent the offsense if vanilla. I do not know if they are really concerned or what they expect out of the team in preseason. In no way did I mean that Gibbs is planning failure in the preseason. I'm sure he wants to succeed, but I'm not sure they want to play their offense or defense in the preseason.
Since the injury to Portis, they have clearly scaled back the offense and played with caution.
Kevin said:We got our butts handed to us last night. Our defense was decimated by their offense, and our offense was non-existant. Everything looked terrible.
That was one of the worst excuses for a football team I've ever witnessed.
However, it doesn't mean a damn thing. I know, I know...cliche. It's not an excuse though- it's a fact. There is a reason these games don't mean anything. It doesn't mean anything more than 11 v 11 drills. Sure, it might measure the talent between two teams before they are at full strength.
Do I think we looked pathetic last night? Yes.
Do I think we're ready for Sept. 11 yet? No.
Do I think that's what our team is actually going to look like in the regular season? No.
Am I worried? No.
When we lose 41-0 in a regular season, I will come here and let you verbally beat me.
If the Boys lost 41-0 in a preseason game (which obviously they haven't), I would also take joy in poking fun, but in the back of my mind I'd remember that it doesn't mean a damn thing.
redskins1 said:cowboy fans, dont read to much into the preseason..I realize you guys enjoy seeing the Commanders struggle, and we are struggling in all 3 phases of the game..you would be foolish to think the Commanders are that bad,and on the flip side you would be misleading yourselves if you think your team is really that good, based on how they have been playing in preseason...Trust me the Commanders are not that bad, when it starts for real the real team will show up for the Commanders and cowboys..until then, enjoy your preseason showing!!!
redskins1 said:theogt, thats cause we are bad team just like the 49ers..we suck,we have no talent, and we have bad coaching...
Cowboy from New York said:Watched the replay of the skins-pats just now on NFL network. The Pats MURDERED them with their TEs. Bodes very well for Witten and Fasano.
As for playing vanilla, the skins blitzed a helluva lot for vanilla. Granted our line would have to what the pats did and pick it up but they got zero pressure without the blitz and when they did the TEs were open all over, particularly the middle of the field was WIDE open again and again.
The corner back play was crappy too.
Fla Cowpoke said:Why would a Commanders fan come unsolicited to a Cowboys board to tell us not to worry about their pre-season showing? And for us to take our success with a grain of salt. Can anyone explain this at all?
MossBurner said:Since the injury to Portis, they have clearly scaled back the offense and played with caution.
Tuna Helper said:Scaled back to what? Lying down on the field while the Pats run all over them.
I just watched a replay of the game. Honestly, why even play your starters if Gibbs is shellshocked by the injury to Portis?
I did see some blitz schemes from the Commanders that I would hardly describe as "vanilla", especially when they were getting their backsides handed to them.
It is preseason, but thus far, the Commanders appear to be less talented and deep than any other team in the NFC East.
No, I understood you perfectly, you misunderstood me. You do not have to be a Commanders employee to have listened to Joe Gibbs last week saying the effort given has not been acceptable. You don't even have to be a Commanders fan. Anyone with a shred of honesty in them should be able to tell that there's some concern.MossBurner said:I think you misunderstood me. Sweeping that under the rug or looking for a hidden thing to hope for won't change the fact that things are not going as planned.
So how about it, Famous One, you got a shred of honesty in you to admit that?
