Commanders | Future destination for Haynesworth?
Mon, 23 Feb 2009 08:28:33 -0800

Peter King, of SI.com, reports the Washington Commanders might be the only logical landing spot for Tennessee Titans impending free-agent DL Albert Haynesworth. Team owner Daniel Snyder had dinner with Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, this past weekend during the NFL Scouting Combine. Snyder may be the only owner willing to meet Haynesworth's contract demands.

Haynesworth to DC would not be good... especially with our running game needing a healthy rebound next year

I heard the same thing when they signed Dan Wilkinson too.

Haynesworth may be a monster, but he was in a very good situation in Tennessee and really needed to stay there. But like many players, he's seeing the green and will go whereever just to get the contract. He's a very unstable person with questionable character and I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole, much less hand over a blank check and pay him.

If Haynesworth plays hard it could be good for the skins. If he goes there I hope he gets a huge contract and just half steps it after getting paid.:D

Didn't they badly overpay for Dana Stubblefield too?

Well call me an idiot then because a piece like that on any team in the NFCE would upgrade a defense BIGTIME.

He can almost completely control the LOS by himself.

I hope he stays in the AFC.

Me too and it wouldn't shock me if he tanked it or remained the best DTackle in the game.

He is a beast though and makes every single player on your front 7 better just by stepping onto the field.

He's played hard the last two years. Classic contract year last season. Please Mister Snyder. Sign him. He'll make the perfect Commander.

He wasn't controlling the LOS several years ago when Gurode was eating his lunch, was he? He can be a monster when motivated. Hand him a long-term contract with guaranteed money and see what happens.

I agree.

I think he'll be another example of a player getting it together long enough to get the mega-contract and then cashing it in until he's eventually released.

Defensive tackles seem to be major culprits in those cases.

He hadn't peaked in his career either.

I still believed John Henderson was the better player coming out of Tennessee until he came back after stepping on Gurodes face.

He is unquestionably the best NT in the game and if you have the money to spend on him then I think its a great move for your defense.

I hope Washington doesn't make this move so I dont have to act like Snyder made a mistake while crossing my fingers.

I think he has. Last year was as good as he'll ever be: motivated, in-shape and playing for a big pay day knowing he can name his price.

If he had stable character, you'd be 100% correct. But he's not. He is a risk with a big fat buyer beware sign around his neck.

I hope Washington doesn't make this move instead of acting like Snyder made a mistake while crossing my fingers.

If they do it, fine. I won't fret about it. I feel pretty confident he won't be winning them any Super Bowls any more than he did for Tennessee and that was with his switch turned in to the on position and with a fine DC like Schwartz.

I doubt that the Skins are the only ones willing to pay him. Last i heard Tampa and Indy were both very high on him as well.

Beyond that I don't care. If he goes to the Skins and is a great player for them so be it. You have to beat the teams in front of you, regardless of who they sign, so I'm not going to get into this hoping someone in the division doesn't sign so and so stuff.

I've done it in the past and it's really just silly.

Indianapolis would be fortunate to scrape together a signing bonus for him. I don't think they are major players. Tampa, of course, they have a great deal of cap room.

So have I and it is needless hand-wringing. There are other factors other than the fact he was a great player last year. How he fits into their scheme, for example, weighs into it. And of course the obvious intangible factors. Its not worth losing sleep over.

If he has peaked doesn't it mean he is on the downhill slide now?
