I still think this guy has something left in the tank. Depends on whether Shanahan can motivate him to get his mind right week to week.

You do? So our last game against KC was just an off day for LJ?

I don't think he has anything left except the need to rob some organization of some $$$$$.

LJ has become one of the backs that is only as good as it's O-line. He certainly isn't a 25 carry a game back either. Sounds to me like this is just a Clinton Portis injury insurance signing.

That offensive line was dreadful. You put him behind a good offensive line and he's motivated to play for something and I think he's a decent back.

I saw him go for 100+ on Cleveland on 22 carries when he left the Chiefs.

I am not saying the guy is Adrian Peterson, but he's not Eddie George.

Larry Johnson-RB- Commanders Mar. 12 - 5:27 pm et

Commanders agreed to terms with RB Larry Johnson on a three-year contract.

Just when you thought the Commanders would make it through the offseason without a head-scratching move. L.J., 30, managed just 3.2 yards per carry last year and has very little burst left entering his age-31 season. We're not ruling out the possibility of Johnson succeeding in Mike Shanahan's zone-blocking system (Reuben Droughns did it), but it isn't likely. He'll compete for carries in training camp with Clinton Portis, Anthony Alridge, and most likely a draft pick.

Not sure what to make of this, but I'll have to wait and see on it. Pretty much my take on everything Shanahan is doing so far. Hoping for the best. :)

LJ is one of those backs that hit the wall- he got over used for a couple of years and that just speeds it up. Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith more and more look like incredible players considering how much they did AFTER they were 31.

Well it seems as though he's signing as a backup. He played decent for the Bengals in that role last year. Based on what this new front office has done so far it's probably safe to say they didn't overpay for him.

He's 30 but relatively fresh by RB standards in the fact that he's only had two seasons with more than 200 carries.

I'm not expecting much out of the guy but he's probably worth a shot as a backup at a decent price at this point. Shanahan has a history of making average RBs look much better than they are. Wait and see on this one. :)

And the Commanders offensive line is a lot better? :laugh2:

Your also talking about the CLEVELAND BROWNS for gods sake...they were fifth to last in rushing defense allowing a whopping 145 yds/game. The guy is done, period.

What difference does it make? He has 1, maybe 2 backup years left, and with our talent, if we have to worry about the skins in the next couple years we are in trouble.

I think that this good for us because then more players like Iupati or Thomas can fall to us if the Bengals have to use a first rounder on RB or TE. I think they have only Benson as RB that is any good. I don't knowif they have any others that are good on the roster. I see some mocks where they are looking at a safety or a guard. Now they have one more thing to worry about.

Good signing for the money. Shanny knows how to run the ball, between Portis and LJ this should be a very good running team. Shanny's no fool, he knows with Campbell throwing they need a very good running game to make his limited attempts as effective as possible.

The Skins will be drafting a QB this year, either Bradford or Clausen, whoever is there at their pick. If it's Clausen they move down a bit and grab him that way but they'll take 1 of them. By year 2 either Bradford or Clausen start. Maybe by the last 3/4 of their first season.

Bengals go after a defensive pick with their first rounder. They get a nice safety in the draft and they'll have maybe the best young secondary in the league. They need defensive line and LB help.

Their offense is not their issue 1 bit. Benson had a terrific year for them and seems to be their answer at rb for a while now.

Their rush offense is not what needs help. They need playmakers at WR. Chad85 isn't the dominant force he used to be and they have nothing else behind him. Their defense was in the top 5 in the NFL last year, a young safety like Thomas would put their D over the top. However, they would still be light at WR. I've seen Dez falling all over the place, maybe he makes it down to them?

If you say so.

Ever see Larry Johnson try to pick up a blitz?

Even if he does have something left in tank, he'll get his QB killed.

And he's a world-class scumbag. No wonder why the Skins signed him.
