I thought Bruce Allen was gonna change things in DC. Guess not.

I still think this guy has something left in the tank. Depends on whether Shanahan can motivate him to get his mind right week to week.

shocker. big surprise. you believe this is a good signing. sad. the guy is garbage. no wonder you think he is still a player. but greg g is a cancer according to you. if you are into clowns that hit women and make rap songs cursing out their team then by all means back him up. have no idea how anyone takes you seriously.

Well it seems as though he's signing as a backup. He played decent for the Bengals in that role last year. Based on what this new front office has done so far it's probably safe to say they didn't overpay for him.

He's 30 but relatively fresh by RB standards in the fact that he's only had two seasons with more than 200 carries.

LOL... he hasn't been "fresh by RB standards" since he carried the ball 752 times over 2 seasons back in 2005 and 2006...

Since then, he's missed 14 games out of 48, gained 2014 yards on 524 carries (3.8 average) and 8 TDs... as a receiver, he has 57 receptions for 340 yards (6.0 average) and 1 TD...

And just last season, in 7 games with the Chiefs, he averaged a whopping 2.9 yards per carry... before you dismiss that as being a product of the Chiefs' dismal offensive line, let it be noted that the RB who replaced him in KC, Jamaal Charles, gained 1120 yards and averaged 5.9 yards per carry running behind that same line...

That's not even factoring in his rotten attitude... now he's gonna be paired with another aging back with a similarly questionable 'tude...

Shanahan has a history of making average RBs look much better than they are.

Hey, I'll give you that, but you can still consider me highly dubious about this move... Hicks and Kemoeatu (if he's recovered from that Achilles tear), I agreed with; Sean Ryan, I wonder about, what with Cooley and Davis on the roster (could one of them be trade bait??)... but this one doesn't do much for me... indeed, I think it's a mistake...

Sorry, gotta call it like I see it...

Not sure what the plan for LJ is, but with the light contract, eh, why not, we'll see what happens. 3 years, 3 million with tons of incentives is the right contract to give him. Gives a bit more depth at RB, which signals to me the Commanders won't draft a RB like Hardesty in round 3, and Shanahan may just wait till late in this year's draft or go after Ryan Williams (a perfect Shanahan fit) or Mark Ingram next year early

As for Ryan, well Yoder is the blocking TE and a UFA. The Commanders probably won't retain Yoder and decided to go younger at the blocking TE position.

You can have more then 2 TE's you know :)

He's a scumbag for sure, but they may be able to squeeze a decent year or two outta him.

You're kidding, right??

You must not be aware that in 7 games for the Chiefs last year, he averaged a whopping 2.9 yards per carry... and when they sent him packing, Jamaal Charles stepped in and averaged 5.9 per carry, behind that same offensive line...

LJ hasn't been the same since he carried the rock over 750 times in 2 seasons (while playing behind arguably the league's best OL at the time)... look at his numbers since then (when he's actually been able to get on the field, he's missed 14 of his last 48 games), they're quite pathetic...

Basically, the Chiefs used him up... stick a fork in him...

But hey, he's got the ultimate "team-first" attitude... ROTFLMAO...

That offensive line was dreadful. You put him behind a good offensive line

Again, go look at what Jamaal Charles did behind that "dreadful" offensive line... he gained over 1100 yards, mostly after LJ hit the road...

I saw him go for 100+ on Cleveland on 22 carries when he left the Chiefs.

And Bernard Scott gained 87 on 18 carries in that game... the Browns weren't stopping ANYBODY in that game...

The Browns ranked 28th against the run, so what LJ did isn't that impressive... especially not when you consider that in the rest of his Bengals' season, he went for 97 yards on 24 carries... in none of them did he gain 40 yards, in 4 of them he ran for 11 yards or less...

I am not saying the guy is Adrian Peterson, but he's not Eddie George.

Actually, I think that's exactly what he might be-- an old war horse with too many miles on him...

If you say so.

Ever see Larry Johnson try to pick up a blitz?

You're right, but he'll be watching Clinton Portis from the sidelines on passing downs...

My reservations about LJ have nothing to do with the money he's gonna make, just with the likelihood that he'll be productive... I simply don't think he will...

Still sore over the lesson I gave you the other day, lol.

I hate this move. Absolutely hate it. For football and personal reasons. What a joke this guy is. The only silver lining that I can see is that if he does turn out to be productive, we have him for a few more years, and we don't seem to have given him a signing bonus, so we can cut him at any time. That doesn't make it much easier to swallow.

I disagree with those that think he has anything left. HE has very little left, good OL or not, and he certainly isn't going to get you what you want over 16 games. He may not be done, but he's approaching it very quickly. I am happy with the signing.

After looking at everything the Commanders did last year, most any running back is as good as his offensive line and the Commander's line stinks. They probably at this time have two lineman who are average at their positions. The rest not so much. Also, for a one cut and burst through the hole, it requires a hole to be there. So bad line and two old running backs. Can't see this making the skin's better. They need to retool the line first and foremost. Heck, there's a ton of good backs this year in the draft. After they fix the line then running back can be accounted for. You didn't need to spend this 12 million on a pretty much washed up running back.

I love the signing. I don't care is there's anything left in the tank or not. The benefit to us is that at some point, Portis or Johnson will want more carries. Neither of these guys can keep their mouths shut when they are unhappy. Week 6 or 7 after 4 or 5 losses and it should be great theatre in DC.

Portis has a lot more left in him than LJ. Of course, Portis can't stay healthy. And you do have to pass on 1st and 2nd down from time to time and teams do blitz on those downs.

And has anybody seen the Skins O-Line?

They are not exactly great.

As far as Greg Ellis goes, Jerry has a long standing history of 'keeping his options open.' He's said this about a million different players. Can't say I blame him. What if Ware and Spencer get banged up and the team is looking so good that all they need is a pass rusher to make it into a Super Bowl contender?

I don't see it doing a lot of good saying 'Greg Ellis will never play here again.' But, there are posters on this board who are not really Cowboys fans, they are Ripping Into Jerry fans.

Just the way it is.

IOW, Davis and Cooley both suck as blockers?? :D

Well, most NFL teams that I have observed over the past 20 years or so generally have the more athletic "pass catching TE" and the "6th lineman" blocking TE.

Are Davis and Cooley great blockers? Na, they are adequete.

Ryan and Yoder are superior blockers. Just like Don Warren was a superior blocking TE to Clint Didier.

Davis and Cooley will never be mistaken for a "6th lineman" :lmao2:, but they both fill their role of pass catching TE over the middle very nicely.

Or in Cooley's case, running over Terrance Newman ;)
