Indians and their rights. That's the political correctness I'm for.
What rights have been denied native americans over this issue?

Exactly.. and to say that some Native Americans don't view the term in a derogatory way would be incorrect.
Actually, we don't know that at all. The man that named the team "Commanders" was a known racist who refused to sign black players longer than anyone else. I guess it's just a coincidence that he chose the most derogatory name available for Native Americans.
the silly part is to argue around topics, not logic.

Surprisingly, the name Commander is not a North American one. Its original meaning had nothing to do with the scalps of Indians. The original name was a European one used to describe Algonquins who painted their face with bright red ocher and bloodroot, thereby making their face red with war paint. Only later on was it implied that the name was derived from a Native American's exposure to the sun or from the scalps of Indians that were paid to cowboys as bounties. Unfortunately, for some reason, perhaps because of our own ignorance, the name is believed to come from the human scalps of Native Americans. However, the original meaning comes from Europe and was used by the Europeans when they arrived in North America, hundreds of years before any reference to any other meaning was used. This is supported by Reader's Digest in its book "AmericasFascinating Indian Heritage" where it is quoted as stating the name Commander was..
I wouldn't walk up to a Native American and call them a Native American lol.Would you walk up to a Native American you didn't know and call them a Commander? If not, then you shouldn't think it's an appropriate name for a football team either. If you say you would without hesitation, I'll call you a liar.

He owns the team and it is up to him what that team should be called.
So if Jerry sells up then you would have no problem if the new owner decided Dallas Ponies has a nice ring to it? Or is the team name only the current owners responsibility when it suits your argument?
The right to be identified not by their skin color.
So if 10% of people are offended by the word "cowboy" would you want Jerry jones to change that too? Allow me to take a page from your book, and call you a liar if you disagree with me.
Because everyone who disagrees with you must be a liar, right? You don't even know where Commander came from or what present day Native Americans think of the word( you admitted this above), yet you claim to know what is appropriate to address them as. Your whole logic is based on ridiculous hypotheticals and misconceptions. Do yourself a favor, do some research and stop believing everything you read in today's media.
Google is your friend, use it. I'm done.

Actually the earliest mentions of the name "Commander" was from Native Americans themselves. The French would later use the term in reference to NA's, but always made mention that they heard it from the NAs themselves. Europeans would refer to NAs as "red skins" in an effort to ingratiate themselves to the natives. This was backed up by research by the senior linguist at the Smithsonian Institute, among others.
What would be incorrect about it?

Google is my friend. I especially like these:
blah blah blah
I'm typically the first one to dismiss political correctness but not in this case. The writing is on the wall with the name Commanders. To many high schools and rec leagues that have used that name are changing it and to many people are jumping on the bandwagon to change it. Momentum is not on the skins side. I think it's inevitable that they will have to change it. I don't pretend to know the true origin of the word or how many people are offended by it, but if there are more than a handful of people who are, then it should not be used as a team mascot. I do know that the owner of the team that put the name in place was a known racist and the team was the last one to sign an African American player. I look at it like this, if you would not walk into a room full of Native Americans and address them as "Commanders", then you should also think its inappropriate to be the name of a professional football team. If you think that would be an appropriate thing to do then good luck!
I like how people are so angry about political correctness, but fail to take the time - or don't care because of their own insensitivity to take the time - to consider that 'Commander' is in fact a word that has been and still is used to malign Native Americans. We are not talking about a positive term like 'chiefs' here. This is a word to make Native Americans feel like trash, and a football team thinks it is perfectly reasonable to name themselves after it. I wonder how Snyder would feel if his team was named after a derogatory word for his own people.
So you would have no problem with an expansion team calling themselves the fighting n-words or maybe the fighting k-words?
Anyhow essentially what you are saying it is not the fault of Dan Snyder for offending Native Americans, but it is their own fault for being offended for being treated like trash. That seems like some really crappy logic.
