I see no way they can be forced to change the name. The Commanders are privately owned. Their fans overwhelmingly like the name and want to keep it. If the courts somehow try to force them to change the name it will be a blatant abuse of power and completely against everything this country is based on. I hope little Danny holds his ground and does not give in to the few who just look for something to offend them.

I have to say this whole thing is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. If the vocal few don't like the name then they should just avoid the team. Nobody is forcing anyone to support the Skins or any other NFL team. These people who are so offended need to get a life.

I think the main problem here is confusion over how offensive the term really is. Most definitions of the word today say its a derogatory term for Native Americans, and even the Native American community is split over whether they feel the term to be offensive or not. I would think it works kind of like the N word.. used amongst their own people, its kind of a term of endearment.. however, used by others, it becomes offensive.

Whatever the case, saying that Native Americans who are offended by this need to "get a life" is supremely ignorant to say.. assuming you aren't Native American.

I don't know if the name is racist, but what bothers me about the whole thing was how adamant Snyder was that he would never change the name. If a significant portion of Native Americans say they find it offensive, would you really want to be known as the guy who doesn't care? What makes it even worse was his "lawsuit" versus the Washington City Paper, a few years ago.

Long story short, in an attempt to gain credibility, he cried that the article was anti-Semitic, due to this picture.

To me, this is hypocrisy at it's finest. A simple childish picture of devil horns and a beard is anti-Semitic, but you refuse to even consider the possibility that the name Commanders is racist!?

I always find it amazing how someone who belongs to a group of people, not white, but any group, can tell another group what can and can not offend them. That and the whole "X" group has bigger things to worry about than a word.

Actually, it is OK for everyone to use the phrase right now. I personally think nobody should use it but the fact is that everybody is free to use it.

For the record, the Nword and the name of the Washington Football team are not viewed the same and the comparison here falls short of the mark IMO. That's just how society looks at it.
