That drive you're talking about, the Ravens started on their own 43 and they were going up against backups - since you seem to discredit the Skins TD because it was scored by a backup.

Yeah, we were down by one point at the half, but for the most part, the Skins defense dominated that game. On offense, we had our backup quarterback and runningbacks going against their starters -- the best in the NFL -- we drove down the field on them and scored, and we surrendered 0 sacks and had 0 turnovers. I'll take that.

no, just you're a Skin fan, so any glowing review on them has to be taken w/ a grain of salt, just as you should take our opinions on the Cowboys

Why did London Fletcher add a third name? He didn't take a road trip to Massachusetts did he?

Nice analysis, Ive watched the 2 first matches of the skins this preseason and had the feeling that they were performing fine..... until Ive read this analysis hehe....

Still we have to face em and beat em yet, tough...

This is true... but as I look at both our teams in the preseason, I'm thinking we match up against them pretty well, and I'm not just saying our team is better than theirs... our offensive line is the type that should give the Skins fits, our run defense is improved enough this year that we should be able to handle their running game, and force Jason Campbell to beat us with his arm, and a questionable cast of receivers...

And if we ever see Wade's blitzing D, it could give the Skins fits in pass protection, too...

But it's all talk until we hit the field... given that it will be unusually late in the season by the time we see them the first time, either or both teams might be considerably different, courtesy of the injury bug...

The skins weakness on Defense is the DL. Other than that, I agree, they have a pretty solid defense. I think we match up well with them though on both sides of the ball (assuming a healthy TNew). Our OL is big and nasty, going against a nonexistent DL for the most part. QB is a big question for them on offense, but IF they stay healthy along the OL, guys like Portis, Betts, Moss and Cooley can hurt you. To me, team depth and lack of talent along the starting DL will cost them.

As far as the Iggles are concerned, I kind of agree with Madden, I think by cutting Trotter that defense lost some its fire. Time will tell I suppose. How is big boy Andrews doing on the OL? Is he going to play?

It's only preseason, but you would like your team to come out and and play well, and the Skins have done just that on defense, and as far as the offense, they are missing some key components, not to mention the fact that, for the most part, Gibbs and Saunders offense's always looks shaky in the preseason.

To anyone who's watched the the last two games against the Steelers and Ravens, it was obvious that the Skins outplayed them.

Once again, you Skins fans have the MOST unique way of seeing reality, and denying it... only to you kool-aid drinkers have the Skins "obviously outplayed" ANY team they've faced in preseason so far...

The Ravens outgained the Skins, 153 yards to 120... they averaged 4.8 yards per play, the Skins averaged 4.0... the Ravens averaged 5.0 yards per carry, the Skins averaged 2.5... the Ravens had the advantage in time of possession, 18:14 to 15:08... they were in position to go ahead in the game, on the Skins' 29 yard line, when the game was called... doesn't look like the Skins outplayed them at all...

The Steelers game was even worse, as Pittsburgh gained 288 yard to the Skins' 226... that's a significant difference... they averaged 5.0 yards per play, the Skins averaged 3.9... the averaged 3.2 yards per carry, the Skins averaged 2.0... they held the ball 30:29, the Skins held it 29:21... and oh yeah, the Steelers actually won the game... the Skins didn't come CLOSE to outplaying the Steelers in that game... which was confirmed by the second half commentary by Sonny and Sam and that other guy in the Skins' radio booth, as I listened to them in the second half on my way to work... let's just say they were NOT happy campers...

But most comical of all was listening to the Skins-Ravens game on the radio on the way to work this past weekend, when Sonny and Sam were openly rooting for penalties on third down on one drive, and laughing when they got them, talking about how the Skins were "on the march"....

Also, I agree with a previous member that said the Commanders will get off to a fast start, checkout their schedule: (while there's parity in the NFL, and some of these teams will be better than they were last year, most of these teams are beatable.)

Dolphins
@ Eagles
-bye-
Giants
Detroit
Green Bay
Arizona

An advantage, it's true, but given that the strength of schedule for all the teams in the NFC East is roughly the same, that just means that when their schedule gets tougher, the rest of the NFCE will be playing the cupcakes... and the Skins will undoubtedly have some injuries to contend with then, rendering them even less able to deal with the better teams... for them, it might have been better to have the schedule frontloaded with the better teams, and save the cupcakes for the stretch run...

coverage has nothing to do w/ stopping the run

too bad his scheme has been figured out since '05

When we had the 9th ranked defense in the league?

Greg Williams has been in the league for years and every team he has coached has had an awesome defense. You are saying the league JUST figured out his scheme? Please. There was much more going on last year then just his scheme.

Actually, the game was called right after the Skins defense forced the turnover and scored the touchdown, after halftime. Come on man, did you watch the game or did you just look up the drive summary on NFL. com?

*EDIT* I thought you said that the Ravens starters marched down the field on the Skins to end the game, my bad. *EDIT*

The Ravens had the ball 2nd and 10 on the Skins' 29 yard line when the game was called... the first down pass fell incomplete because the lights dimmed at that moment... at that point, they had gained 28 yards on 4 plays, having started the drive on their own 43...

Did YOU watch the game??

No more so than the Ravens' defense dominated it...

ROTFLMAO... your first "scoring drive", on the first possession, consisted almost entirely of that 40 yarder to Moss... other than that, you gained 5 yards on 4 carries... on your other "scoring drive", you went 53 yards in 15 plays, and only did that because the Ravens committed 3rd down penalties at least twice, possibly three times... I was listening to the game on the radio, and on one third down drive Sonny Jurgensen was rooting for a PENALTY on third down to keep the drive alive, apparently certain that the offense couldn't get the job done... then they all had a hearty laugh when the Ravens did indeed keep the drive alive with a penalty...

The ONLY thing the Skins did all night long offensively was that 40 yarder to Moss early in the game... other than that, they ran 32 plays, and gained 80 yards-- 2.5 yards per play...

I'll take that.

If you will, get ready to finish on the wrong side of .500 again...

Oh, really?? An "awesome" defense??

Well, I don't know about you, but I'd expect an "awesome defense" to at least rank in the top 5 in the NFL in a given year... but in 10 years as either a defensive coordinator or a head coach, he's had exactly three teams that rated that high... he had one other team that ranked in the top 10...

On the flip side, 4 of his defenses have ranked in the bottom half of the league... here's the year by year breakdown:

2006-- Skins ranked 31st...
2005-- Skins ranked 9th...
2004-- Skins ranked 3rd...
2003-- Bills ranked 2nd...
2002-- Bills ranked 15th...
2001-- Bills ranked 21st...
2000-- Titans ranked 1st...
1999-- Titans ranked 17th...
1998-- Oilers ranked 16th...
1997-- Oilers ranked 22nd...

Average defensive ranking-- 13th-14th (13.5)...

WOW, how AWESOME... he has had as many number one ranked defenses as the immortal DAVE CAMPO...

You Skins fans have ALWAYS overrated Gregg Williams... which is, of course, what you do with everything associated with the Skins...

Bear, how do you STAND listening to Sonny and Sam? They are the most ridiculous homers I've ever seen/heard doing sports commentation (is that a word?) of any type. They're 10000x worse than Patrick and Theezman, and the TV guys make me wanna pyook.

You obviously don't appreciate good comedy... these guys are fargin' HILARIOUS...

I was listening to one of the preseason games last year on the way to work, the Skins were gettin' waxed, and suddenly Sam Huff, who had been all but silent the entire time I was listening, mutters "I'm gonna be sick"... never heard another word from him that night... LOL...
