CommonGround: Where Optimist and Realist Agree

I was pondering what the main thing we can all agree on is and the main thing that comes to mind is that Jerry the owner needs to fire Jerry the GM and hire a real football guy to run things. I know this will never happen as long as Jerry's health holds out but this seems to be one of the few things almost everyone agrees on. There may be a few who like Jerry the GM but they are few and far between. I personally don't mind Jerry the owner but wish he would hire a football guy to run things. Any thoughts on this issue or anyone who believes Jerry is a good GM?

When you start talking of 'need' to do this or that then it just speaks to me of binary 'only one way will work' thinking. Not to say that there is no such a thing as need but when you start talking about complex ideas like corporate management structures and the like to use it then it just seems like oversimplification that I want no part of.

you'd be surprised how uncommon this ground this is...
matter of fact, you may find out soon!

You have a lot to learn my friend. :D

Can you think of anything we can all agree on? That is the only thing that came to mind but who knows there may be a lot of people who think Jerry is a good GM. I really hope this does not turn in to a major debate. I really would like to find some common ground.

Well I do not see hardly any positive Jerry threads even from the posters who are happy with the team. I assumed this possibly meant we could agree on something but I guess that just is not possible.

You aren't saying that though in the OP. You are saying that we 'need to get rid of' Jones if we ever want to be successful. I don't agree with that. That particular sentiment just reeks of giving up because as we all know Jones isn't going anywhere.

We will succeed as well as we draft. I will look to that and not copouts and scapegoats.

No matter the reply , it is a debate with someone. To agree or disagree is irrelevant as Jerry Jones will not fire Jerry Jones.. Not happening..
So the best we can do as fans is voice our displeasure but hold out hope that we will get better / luckier ... I for one don't walk around with blinders on but as soon as I say ANYTHING positive about the Dallas cowboys then I'm accused of being blind / an unrealistic optimist or much much worse by the supposed realists who always claim to be right.. Then they attack this type of response saying that I just don't like to hear the truth or debate... No it's just getting really old ... I am here because this forum
Has allot of very knowledgeable members on both sides of the spectrum but ultimately we can agree we're fans ... Some I just wonder that maybe they should move on and root for another team as they say quite frequently say how it will never change..,I couldn't go through life following a team that I don't enjoy or have hope to enjoy again.. Life is way too short to be like that

Actually I said I like Jerry the owner. I guess you like Jerry the GM??? I don't really care since there is no right or wrong answer. Your opinion has just as much weight as mine. I was not looking for an argument. I just thought we may agree on this point but apparently I was wrong. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong.

Well maybe we can all agree that we all want the Cowboys to be successful and win another SB even if we all disagree on what it takes to get there ???????:)

you said

I understand what you are trying to say. I never said I liked anything. This is what I am getting at about binary thinking. There are more ways than like/dislike to look at things.

If you want a definitive statement then here you go: I do not believe that Jerry Jones' role as GM precludes the Cowboys from being successful.

Could there be a better way? Most certainly but that is besides the point.

I incorrectly assumed most fans felt that way. I thought that that was a common thought for both sides but was obviously wrong. I truly did want to find some common ground but made a bad choice in where I thought that may be.

Jerry doesn't need to hire anymore football guys he just needs to pick one or two to listen to and stick to that even after the roster is good. Let the coaches have a say so on positions but not individual players so you don't end up with Bobby Carpenters just because his dad played for Bill Parcells.

Everyone agrees Jerry sucks.

Some of us have just learned to accept that, barring something along the lines of a natural disaster, he's here to stay so there's no point in getting worked up over something that absolutely will not change.

At least since Garrett became coach, the Jerry-ism's have been kept to a minimum so there's some silver lining that you can teach an old dog new tricks. We'll see.

Funny how the human mind works.

When Jerrah the GM was a good thing..

it was when Jimmy Johnson was coach..

and Bill Parcells was coach.

Seems like with Phillips and now Garrett, too.

..it proves just the opposite.

So Jerrah the GM seems to depend on having a good HC. if he is to be perceived as OK?

So we wait..

to see if Garrett succeeds.

And whether Jerrah is a good GM?

Umm.. i am not sure this is the case. I have heard more bizarre, off the wall, Al Davis in his rocking chair, Jim Irsay from the bar, quotes, statements and press releases over the last couple years than i would have thought possible.

Jerry-isms.. slowing down?.. nope.

SO it's optimists vs "realists"? Where does "pessimists" come in....is "realist" a sugar coating for pessimist? Without getting into political talk this sounds much like an administration I can think of.

It doesnt matter what jerry does. These threads will still pop up. Dallas could win the superbowl and the threads would turn into how long before jerry destroys the team

I think both Realists and Optimists could agree that the Cowboys on paper are not a Super Bowl contender this year.

I don't even like Jerry the owner. No owner in his right mind would keep a GM on for 18 years who's been a colossal failure. Your coaches, coaching staff, players, you're responsible for if they can perform or not.
