I wanted to take Collins or TRawls-RB with our late picks last year

We got lucky with Collins as a UDFA but not Rawls

Not getting Rawls in the 7th was a straight up miss on our part. After missing on RB's the entire draft to have him still be there and not take him was very stupid.

The primary factor in determining the placement of comp picks is the average value of the player's contract. Murray got only $8.0 million per year, and the lowest third-round comp pick was for Julius Thomas, who got $9.2 million per year. Plus, Murray played less than 45 percent of the snaps for the Eagles, which is another factor.

For some reason there were 33 picks awarded this year and no 7th rounders.

I guess the no 7ths was because the number of qualifying players is growing but I can't figure out the 33.

Any thoughts would be welcomed.

In the past, when the NFL announced the comp picks, it always included the statement: "The NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement limits the number of compensatory picks to the number of clubs then in the league (32)." This year's announcement did not include that.

My guess is when the rule about trading comp picks changed, they also changed the rule about the maximum number of picks. Perhaps it allows for more than 32 picks to be awarded if they are all in the sixth round or higher, as long as the total number of picks in the draft does not exceed 256.

Thanks, that makes sense. At first I thought it was because of NE losing their 1st but ATL, LA and now KC have also lost picks. Staying under 256 makes sense with all 6s being counted.

I read that since Chris Long was waived he wouldn't count against the formula if DAL signed him.

That is a plus mark for signing him.

I'm completely in the dark about how comp picks are awarded so this may be a very dumb question. Might they have added an extra comp pick this year because the Cheats losing their 1st rounder reduced the overall number of regular picks by one?

Can't wait to wiff on more late round picks...

Anthony Hitchens, Kyle Wilber, James Hanna, Dwayne Harris, John Phillips, Orlando Scandrick, Doug Free.

All 4th round picks and later from the past ten drafts that were at least significant contributors. 14 more of our late round draft picks from those years are still active players in the league and the jury is still out on the 5 from last year.

Show me evidence that a majority of teams hit better than that and I'll shut up.

I wonder if they changed the way these picks qualify. I've never seen no 7th round comp picks before. I know there's a limit on total comp picks but no other year was that limit reached before the 7th round.

Not that I'm complaining. Three 6ths is pretty sweet.

They only had 32 the last time NE lost a pick for Spygate.

NE isn't the only one to lose picks this year. KC just lost one for tampering. ATL lost one for pumping noise and STL lost one in the supplemental draft.

So even with 33 comp picks there will only be 253 picks this year instead of 256.

Keep in mind the Patriots being docked their first round pick. It opened up the option for one additional pick if the system doesn't allow for more than 256 picks.
