Current GMs who have won SBs:
  • Brett Veach- 3 since 2019
  • Jerry Jones- 3 between 1992-95
  • Les Snead- 1 in 2021
  • Jason Licht- 1 as GM in 2020 (won 1 as Director of Player Personnel in New England)
  • Howie Roseman-1 in 2017 as Executive VP of Player Personnel in Philly in 2017
The other thing to remember is there have been over a dozen GMs who have won SBs who are no longer employed because they retired or were fired for not continuing to get results.
But they won Super Bowl's. They shouldnt be allowed to be fired and should dictate their salary until the end of time.

See how stupid the Super Bowl standard/measuring stick argument is.

Just contradict yourself when it fits your argument. Who wants to exist like that?

I gave a like but not for the ageism argument. However, Jerry Jones should have self-terminated himself as general manager due to lack of performance during or immediately following the 2002 season when he was 60.

Stephen Jones? For all I know, he may be the smartest chemical engineer on Earth. He never had the qualifications for being director of player personnel though. Heck. I have my doubts he is even qualified to be the chief operating officer for the Mister Car Wash chain--much less an NFL franchise.

Below is a list of the 31 General Managers in the NFL who are also NOT NFL owners. Also included in the list is their age and how many years they have been in that current job as GM.
  • Cincinnati Bengals | Duke Tobin, age 52, (technically he’s the “Director of Player Personnel” but serves as de facto GM for owner Mike Brown) He’s in his 24th year as bengals executive
I just thought something. Mike Brown has been around for LONG time. He may have been a poor general manager for decades before handing over the reigns to Tobin BUT he had been an assistant general manager under his father for decades before that.

Obviously, experience does not always translate into being an effective general manager of an NFL franchise. That said, Mike Brown paid his dues before becoming one. None of his critics can ever say he loaded up his truck and moved to Beverly just stepped into the job, while gifting other equally unqualified family members with top level front office positions as well.

In other words you are suggesting providing them a pass for life with the early success they had when they weren’t making all of the football personnel decisions building a championship team.

Average age of an NFL GM (without Jerry in count): 46.5
Oldest GM in league besides Jerry: Trent Baalke, Jacksonville GM, age 60.
Average length of tenure of NFL GMs other than Jerry: 8 years

Tom Landry was fired at 64 because the game had passed him. Tex Schramm was replaced by Jerry as GM in 1989 when Schramm was 68.
I know a lot fans think Stephen is really pulling most of the GM strings these days but he will be 60 in June.

Aren‘t both of these guys too old?
Too old and too much lack of post season success.
Their results would not be tolerated on other teams.

Right

Landry was fired after 3 straight losing seasons.

Belichick was basically not wanted anymore after 3 straight non playoff seasons.

Nobody gets a pass for life. It’s always about what have you done for me lately.

It’s not so much the age of Jethro & Son which are such a handicap as the lack of amount they spend actually reviewing film and the 70-80 hours a week a VP or GM dedicate to their position.

But there’s a bigger reason their age hasn’t mattered the last 30 years since they took over total control of football operations and personnel after parting ways with Jimmy.

They have a conflict of interest wearing both hats as owners and running football operations. In order to continue the football celebrity passions Jethro pursues all that’s been needed is to produce a fairly competitive product and hype the Iconic Brand behind it .

Their only accountability is butts in the seats. And why Jethro stays front and center appealing to public perception. It’s been working . And I don’t see any reason for them to change until Jethro is gone.

It doesn’t mean they don’t want to win but not enough to get out of the way. Jethro was winning championships but that wasn’t enough for him. Why we continue expecting him to change baffles me.

There is a ton of modern research that shows in large organizations like an NFL team, nepotism is extremely detrimental to overall performance because it tends to allow “group think” or a lack of accountability for results. Family members’ ideas cannot be challenged in a way that keeps the organization honest.

Nepotism isn’t a big problem in a mom and pop type business with maybe 20-30 employees. Like a restaurant or lumber company. But in an organization like an NFL team where having qualified people in EVERY job is critical, allowing the owner’s kids to have executive positions without qualifications is a bad formula when trying to win championships.

They also don't come to Dallas because they have zero chance at winning a ring. Zero.

The Texans are building a juggernaut and they might win a championship way before the fuhrer is lowered into the ground at the 50 yard line.
