We’ve all heard the talk the last few months about acquiring OBJ. Recently, talk about acquiring DeAndre Hopkins has also heated up. Both are very accomplished WRs. So I thought it would be interesting to compare the two statistically for strengths and weaknesses.

  • Hopkins is about 5 months older than OBJ. Both will be 31 during next season.
  • Hopkins has missed 17 games in his career, 9 of them last year.
  • Beckham has missed 33 games in his career and had two major knee injuries.
  • Beckham is a Free Agent
  • Hopkins is under contract for two more years with the cards.
Clearly, Hopkins is the more durable of the two and more accomplished in terms of stats. The big issue with Hopkins is contract and our ability to acquire him. Beckham is a FA and in that sense easier to obtain, although I don’t think he’s a great option for us.

Thoughts?

I'm 100% in on Hopkins. He wants to be here, he's willing to work with us financially and he's a better wr.

We throw away 2nd round picks on guys like Jaylon and KJ. While I know we've made some great round 2 picks also, I'd consider this a great one for a couple years.

Much prefer Hopkins.
Better player, less attention. Beckham is a circus. If he isnt productive the media will focus so much on him every game he will start to get defensive.
Plus 2 blown knees and he expects to be paid like he is in his prime.

We need to bring Hopkins on our team. The next 2 years are going to be our prime opportunity to go to the super bowl. Hopkins will have more value to us than just about anyone we can get at pick #58.

stats dont look that different to me, i look at YPC and YPG, i mean games played are off, so total yards and opportunity's for Tds go up for Dhop on career stats but they seem to both bring the same skillset to the table..

Im not for trading for any players cost a draft pick and cost 18+mil per season for what would be backup role to Lamb and or Gallup..so OBJ best of those two but rather just get guy like Jarvis, Chark, or someone that is truly a solid player, has role and doesn't kill the cap. use saved money for other positions and use saved PICK on that very position.. if dhop costs a 2nd use that on a WR in the draft,
I for one wasn't onboard for any of those trades for Ramseys or cook nor dhop they are up in age, big$$ and needed draft p[ick..

Think a trade for Hopkins would happen during the draft. It’s when the value of current players is the lowest. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes for a 3rd. If I’m running the cowboys, I’m all in - contract is reasonable and it only 2 years.

Hopkins is the better player but will be more expensive and cost a 2nd round pick. He also doesnt get much separation. Not good w this QB

These are stats from the year all of you said Dez is washed and cant separate

Bring me Odell. If Dak is the leader yall saw he is, he wont be a distraction

I think bringing Beckham onto this team would be a big mistake. This is a media circus waiting to happen and we've seen the results of that before.

Besides that, having both WR's with dreads is kinda cool.
OBJ is a headache and not the RKG this team needs. In fact, this is the last type of player this team needs. I think Nuke is a better receiver anyways.
I think OBJ’s penchant for drama and attention is exactly what this team doesn’t need. Sure a ton of pro athletes are attention junkies. But Beckham is at an even higher level. One of the good things Mike McCarthy has brought to the Cowboys culture is a reduction in the circus clown show Jerry loves. Seems like adding Beckham brings back a circus element we just don’t need.

Beckham is talented for sure. But his lack of durability and his head space is just not worth it IMO. Hopkins is equally talented, less injury history and a little less drama.

And finally, ending up with neither might be a good option too!

Keep in mind Hops has also never had a good QB…

He’s the better player but a lot of it is going to come down to health and cost.

Cowboys Fans: We need Speed and good Route Runners for this offense!

Also Cowboys Fans: Lets trade a 2nd round pick for a high 4.5s guy that doesnt get separation over signing a 4.43 guy that is known to take slant routes to the house….
