Computer question...

:laugh2:

Uh oh, who did you threaten?

I don't know about the email address but the IP address it came from can be traced.

No.

Not unless the mail server requires geoip authentication and the domain is something obvious like @dallastexas.com. Even that's not accounting for proxies, just that a computer did it.

Email is domain specific and not geography specific. In the litigation discovery phases I have been involved in, I can easily find where you live by subpoena of your email. :D

Not only will we find your place of residence, we probably will find all KINDS of skeletons you are hiding.

Oh and...

What did you do?

Yes depending on how many routes it takes they can use the Ip to determine where the email came from.

There are some things that can prevent it but someone has to know what they are doing. That is also if it is not a spoof but that is a entirely different matter.

Thanks for the answers. Hoping someone helps. I recieved an email and just want to verify that it came from a certian area. If it does not, then it doesn't hold water with me.

it's really tough to determine if those emails really came from Nigeria or not...

It can be tracked back to the home you live in if proper steps aren't taken. The fact that you are asking, tells me you didn't take those steps. :muttley:

Ask the person it came from. Did they send it. If it is that important of an email and you can't verify it. Ignore it, it's someone trying to scam you.
