Conclusive/Inconclusive

if this palm came down before the fingers. He is still out of bounds if his fingers are out before a forearm, two feet, a knee, or his butt.

When I saw it in real time I thought he landed out of bounds. I was shocked to see how close it was in replay. It was the right call. If we want to talk about the refs i'm more pissed that they were allowed to tackle us on a screen pass before Felix even caught the ball.

Yup. :bang2:

Agreed. It's OBVIOUS he was out of bounds. ANYONE not wearing rose colored glasses and drinking koolaid could see he was out of bounds.

Not dez's fault, he almost made an amazing play. But Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

The refs made the right call.

I completely agree. I tried to make excuses and find a way that it would not be overturned when they were reviewing it, but they definitely made the right call.

Sometimes you wonder if it just ain't your year. We execute the onsides kick then miss the FG. We make an improbable coneback, make an incredible would-be game winning catch, only to be ruled out by 1/2 inch. Could easily be 5-2...

We could also be 1-6 if the replacement refs hadn't screwed over the Bucs on that would be scoop and score on that fumble, and if the regular refs would have called the obvious pass interference call on Claiborne or the ridiculous horse collar call they made in our favor. The Cowboys are right where they should be, at 3-4.

You can conclusively tell apart the shades of the gloves and the field, the endzone paint looks worn whereas the gloves Dez has on are fresh looking.

Perhaps the more interesting question is whether his fingertips were fully extended in the glove and thus also just over the line:D the nfl has become a game of millimeters thanks to replay...

That picture makes the loss hurt that much more! So close!!!

Agreed, seemed pretty blatant. Also Romo getting the crown of a helmet to the face early in the game. I'm still expecting at least a fine for that, but am not holding my breath.

Let me preface this post by saying I know his fingertips were on the line. I'm just playing devils advocate for a second here.

The ruling on the field was a TD. They need conclusive evidence to overturn any calls. Well how can you tell me that a guy wearing white gloves was touching a white surface if he camera is at an angle from above his hand? There's just not way. As long as his glove is white and the background (line) is white, there's no way to tell if it is in fact touching or not. His fingers "could" in fact be in the air while his palm is agains the endzone.

You say "well it's not humanly possible for his fingers to be in the air" that doesn't matter. What you see is what you get. You need to see his fingers ON the line out of bounds. Not assume that they're touching just because they look like they are.

This isn't me being a homer. It's just a thought that I feel has some merit.

It looked like his palm was the only thing that touched at the time of the play.

I watched that replay several times and each time I come to the same conclusion, he was out of bounds.

I wish I could sit here and say the refs screwed up but if you want my honest opinion well then he was out of bounds when he came down.

I saw in on the first replay after jumping up and down in my living room, only to say oh no :(

Not to beat a dead horse into glue, but I think the video evidence was inconclusive enough to where if I were the replay official, I would've let the call on the field stand to avoid deciding the game and causing controversy. But what's done is done, time to get ready for the Falcons.

Except of course the ref would have been deciding the game by allowing it to stand

other than fact it wasn't an obvious fumble on Romo in that it wasn't clear until the review that he wasn't down by contact, and it wasn't obvious PI on Claiborne, it is an excellent post

Yup, there are a lot of advanced metric sites like Football Outsiders (as well as bettors) that will point out teams should have a mean record of .500 in games decided by less than 7 points on the year, and they use that to see who is overrated or underrated based on record alone. We are 3-2 in those, so it's not like we've had an unfair amount of breaks go against us.

no way the ref standing behind Romo can see that, no way.

His hand clearly came down out of bounds before any other part of the body touched. If that is the only determining factor in the rule, then the call was appropriately overturned.

The only question I had on the call was the referee, after the review, said that Dez didn't have control of the ball before his hand hit out of bounds. He seemed to be implying that if Dez had had control in the end zone and didn't lose control as he hit the ground it would have been a TD. I thought Dez did have control of the ball.

Still, as others said above I'm more pissed about the no call on interference on the pass to Felix and the helmet hit to Tony's jaw that wasn't called.

Someone on the game thread said there can't be PI on a player behind the line of scrimmage.

but there can be holding called if the receiver is tackled, I believe.

Yeah, there seems to be some confusion on what the rule is. Romo plead for a call on that play, but the ref appeared to shake his head no, as if he was telling Romo, "the player was behind the line of scrimmage." Man, there are so many shaky calls that get no clarification.

yet the same refs always seem to see it when we hit a QB that way or when it happens to Brady

Romo doesn't complain enough
