Confidence Spectrum

Bottom line: This team could go 17-0 in the regular season and it wouldn’t matter to me because they have crapped the bed so often in January.

Thanks to the 49ers game, this is exactly where I'm at now

That really really was about as pitiful a way to kill a promising season as there is. Absolutely deflating and I'm done caring nearly as much until something good happens in the playoffs.

1.
Loses don't even hurt anymore. I'm numb.
I expect the Cowboys to lose in the playoffs.
I expect a collapse even when we're riding high.
I have no confidence in Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, Kellen Moore or Dak Prescott.
I expect Ezekiel Elliott (whom I greatly admired in college) to tap out after a five-yard run.
I expect Cee Cee Lamb to loaf on his routes because Dak won't throw the ball to him.
I expect the same play calls over and over again.
I expect a holding penalty or a false start in the red zone.
I expect this to continue for several more years.
My only solace is that I was around for the glory days of the 90s.
I possess the memories of dominance. For that, I am thankful.

When he took over we were at 20 years without an SB.
We are currently at 26 years and who knows where the # will end by the time the Jones figure out Dak is a dud!
It's sad witnessing what this once proud franchise accomplished that has now been reduced to wait till next year approach for the past 26 years. Pathetic

My confidence level in this franchise right now? 1.

I always have “hope” or I wouldn’t be here. My hope always stays at a 5. My hope is based on hoping we get lucky. That’s about all we have at this point. Praying that Lady Luck will have sweet mercy on this fan base, lol.

One thing I’ve been at a zero about- buying anything the Jones sell. If Jerry told me the sky was blue, I would assume it’s raining. Those guys have lost any semblance of credibility in my book. They are geniuses at two things: Making money and selling their product. Their skill at putting a playoff winner on the field is very low. We have 26 years of receipts.

Given the aging OL and a hand full of bad contracts I think the window is closing. Despite that they seem to have no urgency. Some key spots need a lot of attention this off season. Jerry is off to a REAL bad start with the handling of Cooper so I am getting a bad feeling. The roster still has a lot of talent so I think next season could be pretty good. Beyond that...not feeling positive at all. I guess I am a 3.

Agree and you make a really key point. The lack of urgency from this FO is truly telling.

After the SF loss— it looked like maybe big changes at HC could happen. The penalties, the flat, sloppy, poor play definitely seemed to have JJ considering some big changes.

But— no. They played the “status quo” “continuity” and “we are cap strapped” cards and call it “good enough.”

And that is PRECISELY why my confidence and trust is so low with this organization. They are arrogant and stubborn. The fans (and entire NFL world) watched the playoff FAIL in Jan and come to one conclusion: We are not good enough and big change is needed.

The FO watches that same train wreck and says: We are really close to contending.

Two entirely different perspectives on the same data points and reality. Maddening.

We have one LB right now and one that is coming off an ACL that played LB for maybe 50 plays.

And because the Jones boys are enthroned regardless of results, they never learn anything. They think they are just “unlucky” instead of humbly admitting they are “unskilled”.

The Greeks used to call this “HUBRIS”- the “fatal flaw” in all the main characters in a Greek tragedy. Arrogant pride is destructive.

Zero. Let me know when the Jones family is run out of town along with their rotten culture. I dont care the reason.

3, but I always have hope that a fluke miracle happens and they make it happen despite the huge self sabotage and underwhelming of production, misuse of personnel, poor coaching, etc.

I think Hawkeye's question is about the confidence level at this point, before FA and the draft.
Yeah, and it's too early. We do this every season and so much changes by the time the roster is set all of the early on panic is forgotten. If there's one thing to count on is that this staff will field a roster that comes up short.

Jerry and Stephen are in control. 0. There’s nothing in two plus decades that can get to a high confidence level if you can be objective.

Incompetent fans are laughable!!
Pure enjoyment on part seeing fans that think they know a lot!! Lol!
I admit I don't know a lot.
But I'm not paid to know a lot, which is more than I can say for the folks who are paid HANDSOMELY and STILL can't get it right.

Strong metaphor. Me likely. :)

And your post takes into account what I forgot. I too have hope. But it's a "blind squirrel-nut, broken clock-twice right" type metaphor.

So, there must be many inept FOs, because many have never won a SB.

3 or 4.

Unfortunately the team follows the same strategy every off-season, even though it hasn't worked. It feels like we're in an endless process of incremental change from which there is no escape

Not much to look forward to, less we somehow get another generational player like Parsons.
