*CONFIRMED post #238, pg 16* Tank Johnson Would Be Available to Us In Week 9

Okay everyone listen up.

Ms. Hunter from the NFL offices called me back. This is exactly what she said, word for word.

"Tank Johnson's suspension is a rolling suspension. He has served 1 game of his 8 game suspension."

I was dead wrong and I eat the crow I promised I would. Serve it up.
I'm impressed anyone called you back. (no offense to you...I'm surprised that they would call anyone back)

I am floored.

I'd have lost money on a bet.

At least I sought a real source to end this, and the proof is that I provided a name and it contradicted my stance. I have a feeling that if my stance was verified the argument still rages on.

I can say for myself that if you stated you had talked to a league official and they told you he had to wait I would take that at face value. i dont think people around here intentionally try to falsify links and what not although they may stretch what is said a little bit.

It was a great debate. I'm almost sad it's over.

I am just glad it ended with class shown on all accounts.

I love heated debates but this type of maturity at their close is rare.

gratz guys!

I changed the thread title. It deserves it.

Nice job by all. That was a spirited debate that has left no lingering ill will.

My post said sorry before you made yours mentioning it

like i said i was being pretty adversarial myself. id say owe everyone an apology as well. its kinda entertaining as long as it doesnt get out of control. i love threads like these. i was dead wrong concerning what right Goodell had to suspend Jones for example but in the end i learned a lot from the debate so it made it all worth the while.

Nothing wrong with spirited debate as long as it ends well

So now weigh in, will we sign him? Ya gotta consider it being he's a pretty darn good DT when he's played. I know he doesn't fit the 3-4 perfectly, but neither does Jay R.

Doubtful. :(

I think the guy deserves a chance. That and he's an amazing athlete that would rock out with his ... out in this defense.

No. I don't think we even give him a cursory look.

He a 2 gap 4-3 DT, not a NT. Ratliff isn't either as you state, but he's already on the team and knows the plays.

I still think Spears would be a better NT than DE.

It all depends on how Remi and Ratliff work out i would think. If were getting gashed up the middle or Ratliff is wearing down in the 4th quarter I would think we would at least want to bring him in for an interview. Let Hill and company check him out . if they think he could do alright and he could help us i wuld hope we would.

If were doing fine or Hill says no way Id have to say no.

We probably won't... But like I've said in other threads, he could be a shot in the arm for our stretch run. I figure it's a fluid situation, depending on how Ratliff and Remi play week to week.

At least we don't have to make THAT decision right this second.

EDIT: I do have another question that I genuinely don't know the answer to. If we were to sign him now, could he practice and learn the D while he's out?

Nooooooooooo.

Then we'd have to get one of these put in at Valley Ranch and Texas Stadium.

That was good.

He has NOT served a game suspension yet. Still owes the NFL 8 games. The team that signs him has to then give him up for 8 games.

Oops, I see that others have already pointed that out. My bad.

Oh, and as it regards proof of that, that is standard NFL policy. Think about it. Plenty of stuff about how Quincy Carter would have to serve 4 games if a team picked him up. That has been around this forum since 2005. Why would things change for Tank?

Now don't go lettin' facts and NFL policy spoil things for Fuzzy. :lmao2:

Can we get a second opinion from Ms. Hunter on this? :D

It's the baggage that conserns me more than his ability to play in the 3-4. They said Sapp couldn't do it in Oak, but he played well when they were in the 3-4.
