I was at the 1991 game against the Eagles when Aikman got sacked 11 times. He didn’t show much ability to extend plays in that game.

He turned out to be quite good though.

It's not 1991 anymore. QBs have to be relatively athletic now. Especially if they're going to play behind our oline...

Whether it’s 1991 or 2013 any QB under the sort of pressure Tanney was last night or Aikman was against the Eagles in 1991 doesn’t have much time to extend the play.

Add to the fact that Tanney doesn’t have the rapport with the WR’s on the field last night that Romo has with Dez, Miles, Witten etc. makes that all the harder.

He held the ball to long, he stared down WR and as far as playing with them he has been playing with the 2nd and 3rd string WR all camp and pre season. I think there is something there but he is not ready not even close, bring him to PS and work with him but no way he makes the cut

Personally, I like the guy as a prospect, but he didn't quite show enough the last two games for me to keep him on the roster. He's close, though.

Actual game experience is another world to camp and if you add up Tanney’s total time in the preseason games what would that be? Two games at most.

How long did it take Romo to gain a good rapport with Dez who is far more talented than any of the WR’s out there last night?

More than two games!

I don’t think he should make the 53 but basing his ability on last night’s game is hardly accurate.

Not bashing only stating what I saw and that was he held the ball to long and he stared down WR, if I thought he had no chance I would not say we need to put him on PS. Lets not forget he was worked out by Buff and Pitt before signing with KC last season.

You have to make your evaluation based on what he had to play with. His offensive line was horrible which basically prevented him from running any kind of offense. Having said that, we have more pressing needs elsewhere and can't afford to keep 3 QB's.

I based it on that, he at times held on to the ball too long, not all sacks were on OL. He locked in on a WR quit often notice how so many balls where thrown into double coverage here is a hint a secondary can't put a double on every WR but he looked to lock in on the primary and never went away from it. As bad as the OL may have done, Tanner and Randle seemed to run the ball pretty darn well on the night.

It's true he locked on to a WR a couple times but that was because he knew he wasn't going to have time to check off.

BS, I'm not going to bash the guy but some of the pressure he brought on himself by holding on to long and throwing into double coverage is a bad habit and it was more than a couple of times. I hope he makes the practice squad I think he does have some tools but he is not ready.

Of course he's not ready. He's a FA from a Div I school. Your analysis is just a bit off. Having 2 or 3 300 lb defensive lineman in your face all game will cause you to look like you don't belong.

He is not a rookie he was in camp last season and was eventally cut and some of the pressure he brought on himself, you can't hold the ball as long as he did. As bad as the OL may have done they managed open running lanes for Tanner and Randle so putting it all on the OL is a bit off.

No problem disagreeing. At least we do agree that he's only PS material at this point.

Yes we do agree on that. I wish the guy the best I'm not anti Cowboy players I pull for all the guys. I try to be honest in my views without bashing the player. Some of these guys played their last game last night I see no reason to slam them. hell they have done more than any member on this board and I respect that even though their chance of playing Pro fooball may be over with. Tanny I think he will make the PS and get another chance down the road so again not bashing him only stating what I saw.

I have not seen anything to suggest the Cowboys won't go QB high next April.

Unless a steal falls to them in the 2nd or 3rd, I don't see them taking one before the 4th round.
But I do see them drafting one if the value is there at some point.

Could be wrong but don't remember anyone thinking we would take a te especially in the 2nd and Romo is older than Witten, so I see us going qb early

I agree he does those negative things. But that's very normal for a new QB. He didn't get the coaching to do those things right away and you don't normally see QBs do those early on even coming from a passing offense. That's not as universally true as in the recent past but it's still generally true. Some never learn it. Most don't actually. But I highly doubt you are going to get this guy on the PS. I do agree that is the optimum place for him. He could be an emergency QB game day, learn during the game as well as after, not take a roster spot displacing another player and would cost less. That's perfect for him. I just don't see him getting thru waivers. Not only does he have the physical tools but he has 'it'. Whether or not he can develop the mental side of the game is the only question.

Watch him in the pocket. He looks like Romo. He doesn't have Romo's quicker release but he has his pocket presence. He also already has the moxie to throw the ball into tight spaces which many just can't/won't do. And that is critical in the NFL. They just need to learn when and where to do that. He's not ready to play yet and I wouldn't want to ruin the guy. Put him on the team and see if he can develop. If so you at least have someone to trade for picks or even possibly be the guy. It is a little early to be looking for Romo's replacement but if he develops you gain some leverage on Romo come next contract. And you can't pick the time for someone like him to come along. They do when they do. If he never pans out all you've done is lose a roster spot for a year or three. That's nothing if you can get a starting or even very competent backup.
