congresswoman gabrielle giffords shot in tucson

That old dude best repent quickly; I watched about 20 seconds of that video and that's all I could stomach. He looks like he's about half dead himself and is being propped up.

Eh..I think they do it for 2 reasons. They're a fringe nut group and they like being in the news.

Seriously sick evil people.

If I lived in and was licensed in Arizona, you would have a pro bono attorney... ;)

Nate Phelps, son of that loon has been trying to get his family shut down for years.

Nate Phelps, who left the family more than 30 years ago and lives in Canada, says his father is a violent individual. He talks about rage and the physical abuse Fred Phelps inflicted for hours at a time on his wife and children. He speculates that his father is mentally ill and effectively calls the Westboro church a classic cult.

Lawmakers vote to ban picketing at Tucson funerals

PHOENIX — Arizona legislators quickly approved emergency legislation Tuesday to head off picketing by a Topeka, Kan., church near the funeral service for a 9-year-old girl who was killed in the Tucson shootings. Unanimous votes by the House and Senate sent the bill to Gov. Jan Brewer for her expected signature. It would take effect immediately.

Without specifically mentioning the Tucson shooting, the proposed law prohibits protests at or near funeral sites.

Dozens of lawmakers co-sponsored the bill, and legislative action was completed within 90 minutes. The Senate's committee hearing took just three minutes.

The Westboro Baptist Church said Monday it plans to picket Thursday's funeral for Christina Taylor Green because "God sent the shooter to deal with idolatrous America." The fundamentalist church has picketed many military funerals to draw attention to its view that the deaths are God's punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.

Lawmakers denounced the church's plan to picket a child's funeral.

"This is just horrific that ... people have to deal with this. We shouldn't have to do this in time of great pain for our state," said Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, a Phoenix Democrat.

The girl was the youngest of the six people killed during the shooting at an event held by U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was among 14 people injured. Giffords was shot in the head and critically wounded.

Numerous states have passed laws restricting protests at funerals after members of the Westboro church began protesting at the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Great to know, if these morons want to protest they still can, just not anywhere close to the funerals.

People respond to the Phelps family the wrong way. They are a family of lawyers, and use hate to provoke people into attacking them or infringing on some right and get everyone sued.

All the Phelps family has to do now to win a lawsuit is show up at the funeral to protest and get turned back. They then have standing to file a lawsuit that they will win.

They are being paid to spread their dickedness by those trying to shut them up. Stop giving them money and they won't be able to afford to be ***** all over the country.

The law passed prevents them from picketing this funeral, but will be paying the expenses for the next five.

Just another case where the law is wrong. But its legal which is what all too many care about. Arizona is trying to do the right thing which should be legal but in the end will probably be overturned on the stupid and wrong notion that people should be allowed to do something like this. I mean if you cannot yell "fire" in a crowded theatre when its not true, it should be just as ILLEGAL for someone to picket a funeral.

The thing about it is Arizona probably knows that it would get overturned by a court. But by the time the case makes its way through the system the funeral will be a memory. Who cares if they win the lawsuit then? The goal of the legislation has been met.

The US Constitution disagrees with you.

Might wanna read the first amendment.

There are some similar laws that have been passed in other states that have passed the court test of constitutionality.
