Connor Williams

Then what is this thread all about? He has gotten beaten by two great DTs in preseason? Heck, even stats posted about the hurries he gave up aren't anything bad.

He's a rookie. Not everyone comes in playing like Martin and Frederick. How was this board Smith's first year at RT? He didn't grade out fantastically early on.
Tyron was a beast day one. Stop it. Here we go with the personal nitpicking. Williams doesn’t deserve to start right now. Simple as that. Let him develop more. He’d get Dak killed right now. But then again maybe that’s what some people prefer? Who knows?

I think he will be fine also. He just needs better technique and use his quickness and strength more. Sure he can use more strength. But he seems to play too high and allow the dlinemen to get up on his chest. He needs to be able to plant his feet and get better on the center of gravity.

Gaining weight right now is not an option for him. But once he gets his technique down asap, he'll be just fine.
Yeah,it’s the real depth guys on the line I worry about. They really stink so far... not impressed at all. Got defenders coming through the line like diarrhea through a goose. That has to get situated in a hurry. Started planing alternatives hobbies for the season when I heard Martin got hurt.

What the hell are you talking about? No, he was not a "beast" from day one. He was a freak of nature with a ton of upside, but he DID NOT come out of the gate dominating. This is absurdly revisionist.

Williams, AGAIN, went up against a really good defensive player last week and then one of the leagues best DTs last night. Even then, he didn't give up very many plays. Playing okay against Geno Atkins as a rookie in your second preseason game is not a bad thing.

Stop the kneejerk reactions.

Connor Williams isn't very good right now. Im a pretty good judge of talent and im pretty certain he will be the weak link on this oline for years to come. But we will be fine as long as we have those 4 studs playing next to him. Cant have a pro bowler at every spot. Coaches need to be smart enough to mask his deficiencies. He will be fine.

It’s not that complicated. Many posters have said it already.
It seems most think he will be ok someday when he strengthens up or gets bigger. The question and concern is that he isn’t there yet and to no fault of his own he is being pushed into a starting role he isn’t ready for.

Not that extreme of a concern.

He didn’t play ok.
He was beaten on approx 8 plays where the defender blew him up, bull rushed him into the backfield or he let his man get our RB behind the line for a loss.

There was some good some bad and some ugly.
The problem is a loss play is too often a drive killer and you only get 8-10 drives per game and he had 8 potential loss plays in 33 plays. That’s not ok.

That’s a damn lie. Tyron made a few mental mistakes along the way. As all rookies do. But he was smashing top Defensive Ends DAY ONE!!! Why do you insist on minimizing Tyron while elevating the others? Is it personal?

I wouldn’t have minded brining back Cooper for cheap for LG. Can’t have a stud at every position and he seemed serviceable.

Plus, would have allowed us to fill a more pressing need in round 2

You have yet to break anything down. Until you do, there are other threads where people HAVE done this.

AGAIN, he went up against one of the better defenders in the league and played well. Yeah, a rookie offensive lineman is going to have mistakes in his second preseason game against an elite player. No ****.

So he went from beast to you admitting he had mental mistakes. Which is it?

Again, the way he was grading out his rookie season was not "beast". It was a good rookie season for a guy with a lot of upside to go on to what he became for us.

Stop revising and exaggerating to put down a rookie player.

He was a Beast. He made mistakes as a rookie because experience is always the best teacher. But he wasn’t manhandled, bullied or pushed into the quarterback either. Maybe you’re from a place where Beast has a different meaning. But where I’m from m Beast means physically dominating. Which Tyron has been since day one. Williams isn’t there yet.

I didn’t know this thread owed you a breakdown of each play...
Btw this thread was started before the thread breaking down each play. That one just further proved what posters said in this thread.

He went up a good DT and played poorly.

Hey Mods....the cowboyszone narcissist says this thread needs to be closed down...

Connor Williams gets man handled by DTs very often this preseason. What the hell are you watching?
Again I have to look deeper into week 2 but as of week 1, he is confirmed to have given up 1 pressure (the sack) in 33 snaps. That's just a fact I don't have any biases towards Connor, I just know that 1 pressure in 33 snaps sounds pretty solid. But hey I guess we're looking for him to have a perfect game.

Who would you start in his place? And preface your answer with the thought of not moving La'el Collins back to guard.

Geno Atkins was destroying him.

What will Fletcher Cox do?

Allen/Payne in Washington?

You don't get to play 3rd stringers in the regular season much.

He needs an offseason of weights.
Jesus we need to start reading the whole reply timeline before we reply to someone. In my original post I said I had to look deeper into his week 2 performance. Regardless of if it was terrible or not that bad, lumping in a week one game where he had only 1 pressure in 33 snaps is ridiculous. All we've heard from camp is he has great feet and athleticism as well as good technique, needs time to bulk up. The week one game was a direct representation of what we already knew.

Again maybe he got crushed week 2, but even if he did I don't think one preseason game is enough to declare someone unfit of being a starter. Let's give him time.

Similar to Taco last year, Connor needs a year in the weight room. Otherwise, I think he'll be fine.

I think he will get better and better but he will need an off-season to put on size. He looks small out there.

Replace him with Chaz Green... that guy has game experience and a few years in the weight room.
