Connor Williams

My concern as stated before.......forget the Bengal and 49ers games for a min. When the last time we heard glowing reports on Connor from practice, especially during one-on-one drills. I've heard plenty of him getting beat quite a bit and this by some guys who may not make our team. Again I'm bashing the kid or the pick, just simply agreeing he may not be ready to start.

what concerns me more is the depth behind our 1st 5....except for Joe Looney.
I thought Cam Fleming was a good f/a sign...Im not impressed at all...he played better in NE than this.
I like Kadeem Edwards but I dont trust him as a starter.
Joe Looney played well and Kadeem Edwards is a keeper. Glad we have Looney can play guard if Connor Williams struggles badly.

I saw him make some good plays. and I saw him make some bad plays. best thing about him is his footwork. that can make up for other shortcomings. his one bad tendency is to put his head down and try and lunge into the defensive players. can't block what you can't see. but he seems very coachable. should be fine.

Connor Williams sucks right now and should not be in our starting lineup. He’s a liability out there and it’s apparent. It truly amazes me how fans here are quick to give him excuses and leeway when the film clearly shows he’s not sufficiently doing his job right now. But for many other players they’re quick to berate them and claim they are worthless. Why is Connor different? Don’t bother answering. I already know... This **** is sad.

He's is not ready to start. Needs a year of strengthening and learning to use leverage as a G, if he's going to make it. Just because we picked him doesn't mean he's a NFL OL.

I see SOMEBODY here is thinking rationally and without bias.

I’m kinda of starting to admit that my favorite pick of the draft may be a liability but it’s still early. On the other hand, we’ve been spoiled with our O line and he’s still surrounded by a few Pro Bowlers plus we have the best blocking RB in the league, what’s there to worry about?

At least you are adult enough to admit it.

Absolutely. I was talking all kinds of hype after we drafted him and if he turn out to be a bust then I’ll eat crow but again, it’s still early even if he doesn’t pan out this year. The scouting reports were all over the place, analysts either loved or hated him, his draft projection was split from first round to fourth.

He's a rookie. Just like Taco was last year. Give these players a chance for cripe sakes.
He’s an underdeveloped rookie who SHOULD NOT BE STARTING RIGHT NOW. He’s gonna get Dak killed.

People are going overboard but you’re going the other way in glossing over some of his poor play.

There was one play yesterday he completely whiffed on his block at the LOS (not in space) like the way a defender can be shook by a nice cross-over in basketball.

I attribute a lot of the rough spots with 1) being a rookie/playing a new position; and 2) needing to develop his body/adjust his technique to play on the inside.

The “he was playing against (player name here), who’s one of the best DTs in the game” alibi isn’t going to fly for very long. It’s the NFL. He’s going to face top competition regurlarly. He was picked where he was to block those kind of guys, not just dominate street free agent types.

IM not saying anything that you cant see. Is he giving up ground? Yes, he his guy running loose? No? Does he need to improve, of course he's a rookie. Is he holding his own, you damn right he is.

I just dont think he's struggling. He's playing his game and he's learning the strength in the NFL is totally different from the college game. You know who else this happened to? Tyron Smith, and he came back and turned himself into a all pro. Connor Williams has the makeup of a player and person that doesnt need to be questioned. He's willing to put in the work to get stronger and knows his body. Some people just need misery. IM a fan who loves whats happening in Dallas and getting young. IM going to watch a Cowboys game and enjoy it. Some people are not capable of this.

It hurts but Cooper couldn’t get out of his own way but he at least held his guy from running through him like a turnstile. At this point Cooper > Williams.

It could change but this guy hasn’t shown to be anything but a liability.

Anyone who recorded the game should go back and watch this first quarter again and just watch Connor. It’s scary bad.

I did and think you are spouting hyperbole. He needs to anchor better but his mobility and hands are fine. Also that was Geno Atkins.

That is fact but we are going to be dependent on this rookie, they could bring Charleton along in rotation last season and get him acclimated.

It's not Williams fault and I am not bashing him or his progress, it's not the pickee's fault and this kid really wanted to be a Cowboy. The fact is he is struggling and he hasn't really seen the stunts he's going to encounter once it gets real because he plays on the left side and he's a rook.

There is a real misconception that all a rookie needs is reps and time, particularly because some think the Cowboys are the OL experts because of 3 #1 picks playing on it and the 3 best ranked players at their position coming into the draft.

Here's my concern with Williams, it's not with Williams. It's what happens to the C and LT when the LG is struggling, it affects the entire side of the line as they're trying to help him out. That's why I liked Leary, they didn't have to worry about him. They could just focus on their assignments.

He may come along fine over the course of his career but there is no denying that he's struggling now and it's not even real. I also think the expectation levels were unreal for him.

I hate saying this but Connor Williams gets beat on so many plays. Last week was bad and people just assumed it was jitters....then tonight he was beaten by his man on way too many plays in the passing and running game.

I think it’s becoming a concern.
We all know he looks small for a guard. I’m not sure if he is playing out of position or if maybe he just isn’t very good at this point and may be a liability this season.

We may have assumed since we hit on so many OL in recent years that we would hit on this one as well.

Thoughts?
Still better then Chaz green LOL SORRY couldn’t resist hahahahaha

Why don’t we let this kid play 4 preseason games and get more experience before deciding if he starts or not. At the very least he needs reps against starting defenses.

This isn’t hard guys. Lol
