Connor Williams

Poor is getting your behind handed to you and being mauled and man handled like a child. I don’t wanna hear **** about his technique and all that bs. That technique Talk is for those who lack athleticism. He’s not big or strong enough to handle the big DTs in the NFL. Accept it as fact. Cameras don’t lie. Men do.
So... If he isn't strong enough, why did he root everyone out in the straight ahead run game?

I will wait for your amazing analysis.

He did best when on the move. When squared up against Atkins, Billings and even Glasgow, not so much. He is going to have functional strength issues for this year at least. That is just the reality of it. He's not like Martin (not many are) where he can step right in at guard and not skip a beat against power rushes.

He'll get bigger and stronger after a full offseason next year. There is nothing wrong with simply admitting where he is at right now.
I kind of thought this too until i rewatched every snap. He pushed those same guys back in the straight ahead run game. If he wasn't strong enough, he couldn't do that. I think we need to be a bit paitent with him. He is playing guard for the first time in a couple of years and is doing so against 2 of the better ones in the league to start. I believe he played a little like a T at G in the passing game and it cost him. He was setting up and trying to accept instead of delivering a blow to stop the defenders momentum.

I actually came away quite impressed with him, the opposite of how so many are reacting.

Check the thread where each play is broken down.
If you get beat and your guy is in your backfield 8 times out of 33 snaps then you played poorly.
Check PFF and see how they also said he played poor both games. If your getting beat by your man this badly every 4th snap then it’s a problem. It’s not just about not clearing your lane or hole. I’m talking about your man in our backfield quickly.
There were not 8 plays where he played poorly, sorry. That is someone not understanding OL play or assignments if they thought that.

You can't block a guy who is infront of you and the play is going toward him...sorry. Not his fault.

He didn’t. You’re lying. He had a couple of good plays here and there. But was severely man handled for the most part. He couldn’t stop the bull rush. As seen in these 2 preseason games

RIght...i'm lying.

I tell you what...we can revisit this mid season and tell me how wrong you were, deal?

Ya think? I am surprised. Watching the game now. Apparently we end up losing. What ever, it’s preseason. But very surprised they are just gonna plug this kid in to this starting line up. He is light and not ready. It’s gonna cause problems in the real games.

He may be one of our best 5 OL but he's making the transition at guard and he is probably a year away. If you flipped him and Collins both would be in their more natural positions. I don't know why the team is insisting on playing both of these guys out of their natural positions

There’s no way Williams would survive at Tackle. Are you serious?

He is better suited to play OT. He's big enough as a tackle and has the speed on the edge. Speed isn't killing him. Power is what is eating his lunch.

Deal... As long as you’re gonna do the same.
I don't shy away from any of my analysis. Just like I didn't shy away from all of the "I told you so's" for guys like Dak before we drafted him, our defense last year being very good by the end of the year, like La'el at RT being very good, like Byron Jones being hot garbage as FS but a good corner...etc.

Should be fun.

I have no clue. He isn’t bad. And he will catch on and only get better. I could see if they were cross training them but for some reason this staff pulls them away from there natural position.

Yes indeed!!! Should be an entertaining ride this season.

I just think he’s not fully matured physically. He’s not ready yet. Hopefully next year he will be.

So you think everyone who saw Connor Williams get abused are just making this stuff up? Why would we just make this up about him? Why him?
Is PFF picking on him for the same unexplained reasons? Are the articles coming out that mentions his poor play just a bunch on conspiracy types out to get him because why?

You may want to disagree with others assessment. But the fact that other have this assessment means something.

Same reason the popular opinions were so wrong about what I pointed out I was right about earlier, people just repeat what they hear. They don't actually look at the film or if they do, don't understand what they are watching. They also don't factor in growth.

It is very simple really.

So PFF doesnt look at the film or doesnt understand what they are watching? A site that is funded by people who are willing to pay money for their analysis are now just going by "popular opinion"? How did the opinion that he is struggling become 'popular'?

I like that you mentioned the 1 giveaway that makes it clear whats beneath the surface. Growth..You liked this draft pick and you feel if you admit he isnt playing very well right now that you may have to question if you were right in your initial analysis. I get it. This is where you are wrong. Everyone likes Connor Williams and everyone does factor in Growth. I have not seen many if anyone say he was a bad draft pick or that he is a bust. Its only been 2 preseason games. Where people are concerned is with him today. Is he good enough today to start for us in a few weeks when the games matter? We all know is doesnt matter if he is or isnt because he will be out there week 1 running with the All Pro's.

I agree with that. It's probably true. On the other hand I doubt opposing DTs are going to wait until next season to bull rush him.

No PFF is not gospel. They are wrong A LOT! I didn't read what they said but if it is touting "bad" plays being not getting the almost impossible scoop blocks he "missed" as being "bad", then I have no use for them.

I do like the draft pick and I know he is going to be a very good player for us. The fact that he is already one of the best in the league (IMO) at pulling and leading is amazing. Again, anyone expecting domination in aspects of the game in his 2nd game of his career against a couple of Pro Bowlers is overreacting.
