Considering the lack of success, how is this team maintaining such a strong fanbase?

We are indeed ..no matter good or bad, ALL teams bring their best game when playing us ... Dallas SBs should count for 2 because of those extra factors

We are the only ones that think this way. Its why the other teams fans love to watch us get beat. and we get beat a lot. Its like watching the "cool kid" get his butt kicked.

But, I would say, we are more like, ..................the dufus who "thinks" he is cool..................and everybody just ignores him.

Sticking with a losing team is what being a fan is about.

I was born and raised in Dallas and nothing can change that, so I have a connection to the Cowboys in that way.

It would admittedly be more difficult to stick with my Cowboys-only fandom if I had a connection with another team that tended to win more, like if I ever end up moving to an NFL town again, but I don't think I can ever give it up.

I think the misconception here is that the notion that the Cowboys fanbase isn't affected by poor performance. Attendance and viewership waned during the Campo years.

I also think that the premise of the question in the OP is flawed. This year is the first truly bad year we've had in a awhile. We were average and mediocre before which is more controversial than anything. That attracts interest and doesn't send people away. Perhaps putting things in terms other than binary, arbitrary definition of success or not, would help.

Once a Cowboy fan, always a Cowboy fan. For me it started back in 1971 in the season with the Staubach/Morton QB controversy and the first Super Bowl win. I was just a little squirt and didn't understand the complexities of the game, but the whole family watched with fanaticism, yelling passionately, especially my mom. We lived 40 miles sound of Ft. Worth and went to some of the games in person. If a game was blacked out, my dad would go on the roof and turn the antenna toward Waco so that we could get the game, albeit on a snowy TV. It was pre-internet/pre-satellite TV. My parents went to games at the Cotton Bowl in the early sixties. The Dallas Cowboys are a family tradition. They're so much more than just a team to us. I root for them because it's ingrained in my genes. Sometimes when I've been really pissed off, like when Jerruh treated Landry like crap or when Switzer was such a moron that he brought a gun to the airport, I vowed to quit watching the team. But I never stick with that. It's just my POed mind venting and I always come back. If for some reason I did manage to quit rooting for the Cowboys, I simply would not watch any NFL team at all. Last night I was contemplating watching the playoffs and considering who I might root for, but it was like -- meh -- who cares? I wouldn't mind seeing the Commanders thoroughly embarrassed, but then again that's time I could spend doing other things. I can see why a young person growing up might have no interest in this team that hasn't done much in a long time. Last year looked like we might be returning to greatness. What a disappointment that we couldn't build on that. Who knows? Maybe next season the team will come in armed with great draft picks and will do a lot better. No one can know for sure. All I know for sure is I can't help but root for them. Next year I'll either be delighted to be rooting for this team that's much improved with Super Bowl chances or I'll be cursing in frustration at another disappointing team. Either way it's just in my blood to root for the Cowboys.

The star on the helmet is the greatest symbol in professional football, like the Yankee pinstripes, Celtic green, original Coke and Kleenex. Just part of Americana. But unless the new generation of fans sees a championship here soon that aura could go away very quickly.

Well, I've come to realize that I'm never going to see another Super Bowl for the Cowboys in my lifetime. I cant stop being a Cowboys fan. Its in my blood. I've been fortunate enough to see all five Superbowl victories and two of those Superbowl losses. As Reality said, we will probably never see another Superbowl as long as the Jones's family owns this team. Its all about money to them.

Parents brain wash their kids to be Cowboys fans.. I have my kid brain washed as well. The only problem is he's always asking me why they suck. I think He likes the Broncos deep down inside though.

Mine like the Cowboys because I do but he just turned 12 so he prefers to play PS4 than sit and watch. He also knew the team blew chunks this year so he didn't watch much (and he has a ton of hockey to play anyway so not like he has a lot of time to sit and watch. Hell I got Sunday Ticket this year and for the first time I feel I didn't get much benefit. I was away three of the 17 weeks, out a ton of other Sundays so I didn't get the enjoyment to the same extent. Granted the fact the team was terrible didn't help to increase my enjoyment.

Well I would like to think that maybe a big percentage of us Cowboy fans are pretty dedicated. We aren't a bunch of fair weathered fans like a guy I worked with, Who had 5 or 6 "Favorite" teams. Couldn't stand him. I always get crap from everyone because I live in Iowa and everyone around here likes the Steelers because the Hawkeyes copied their jersey or they follow teams that are in the Midwest. It's mainly Bears and Packers but there's also a few that like the Vikings and the Chiefs. It's funny to me that so many people hate the Cowboys, Well around here anyway, When the team has won 2 playoff games in 20 years. I'm used to it because I'm 44 and I've been a fan since I was 8. We are very passionate about this team and that's why we wave great forum's like this. I get goosebumps when they play. That Packer game last year about killed me. And the Cowboys have the best uniforms in the NFL. I think it adds to their mystique. The blue jerseys are great. The white jerseys are great. The Blue Star is the best symbol in sports. I loved this team from the first game I ever watched and Danny White was the Quarterback. The offense was incredible. Tony Dorsett, Drew Pearson and Tony Hill. Fun team to watch. Players change and coaches change but it doesn't matter. I'll always be a fan

This is not meant to be a rant, but I would like to hear some opinions on this subject. Considering the lack of success , how is this team maintaining such a strong fanbase? Let's be honest, there are not any band wagon fans fighting to join up as fans and I have trouble seeing why younger fans pick the Cowboys as their favorite team . For us older fans, we have seen the glory years with Landry and Roger, later on it was Jimmy and Troy. Those memories are the only thing that keeps me hanging on. There has to come a point when the fans say enough is enough and the losing and disappointment outweighs team loyalty. What is keeping the fanbase together? I see no reason for a young fan to pull for the Cowboys unless they live in Texas or have connections to the organization . The injury excuses To be honest, the Cowboys have become mirror images of the Raiders or other teams that only have past glory to hold on to . What say you? What is keeping you a fan considering the disorganized mess that the Cowboys have become? I Gould never pull for another team , but I am at the point of losing all interest in the current version of the watered-down version of the NFL. Thoughts?

I had the good fortune of being 7 and living in Dallas when the Cowboys won the first of 3 Super Bowls in the 90s. I fell in love with them then, and will always be a die hard fan.

They will always been America's Team win or lose. Been frustrating but I would never jump off the bandwagon.

I wish I could jump off the bandwagon. I live in the heart of Steeler country and it would make a ton of sense logically for me to become a Steelers fan but I just cant.

I want nothing more than to see Tony Romo win a Super Bowl but sadly it looks like it will never happen. Big Ben the rapist will probably get to his fourth this year and Romo is still waiting. Sometimes life is just not fair.
