Yeah, I guessed right that he would retire - no biggie.

Now, if it comes out at some point that Jerry asked him to leave ... then, I might be onto something.
Ask to leave is a laughable idea as there are few guys Jerruh (generally referred to as the "football dummy") could sell to average fans as a replacement for Tuna.

i'll give you Cowher, Stoops and maybe Fisher.

it also took tuna and 4 years for jerruh to prove to the NFL a legitimate coach CAN work with him. now two of those above guys require compensation and jerry is smart enough to realize one year with Tuna could give those choices and a lovie smith with no compensation in 2008

I really think its more plausible that Jerry has his eye on Cowher next year. He's thinking Bill comes back for one more shot and then he makes a run for him next year with an excellent situation for him.

Then Bill asks for the extension. Jerry can't give it to him because he wants The Chin next year. They wrangle for the week, and Bill proceeds with business as usual in case they can get it done. Jerry decides to hold firm this weekend, he wants Cowher next year as a top line coach for his stadium opening.

Bill knows as a 1 year coach he is somewhat hamstrung, especially in filling coordinator spots, and decides he doesn't want to just be a placeholder for Chin next year. He steps down. Wouldn't be shocked to see him next year as a GM in someone else's front office.

That's my theory :)

Equally plausible, thanks for playing!

Chinch, I think you are selling Jerry way short. That "football dummy" brought 3 Super Bowls to Big D, and is a multi-million dollar business man.

Has he made a few mistakes along the way? Certainly.

Show me a business leader who hasn't made major mistakes.

The great ones learn from their mistakes, and create even more success.

We all (well, most of us) thought that Jerry did the right thing by hiring Parcells. Well, 4 years has proven that he didn't get the results he wanted.

So, he's moving on ... now, I agree that he would have a difficult time selling anyone but a proven winner as Bill's replacement. Let's wait and see who that someone is before we decide whether or not he has difficulty selling it. I have a feeling that it may not be as difficult as you would think ...

Of course, I may be very wrong ...

LOL, as I said elsewhere, Jerry is a follower... always follows trends, so we should probably be looking at black coaches. That said, here's my latest conspiracy theory: Jerry will give the Titans a mid round pick for Jeff Fisher. The Titans are happy since Jeff probably goes next year anyway...and they promote Norm Chow. Everyone wins?

If that is true, I predict Jerry brings in an unknown under a 1-year contract, the Cowboys win the Super Bowl, and Cowher goes into broadcasting.;)
