Contrary to belief, we're rebuilding

Even though I wanted Manziel, I'm glad we drafted for need(s). Look at the teams that are competing in our division (Panthers, 9ers, Seahawks) who all have recently rebuilt.. We're drafting exactly how they did, beef up the o-line/ d-line.

A lot of people wanted to take a safety in the first which is understandable, but not every team is going to have an Earl Thomas in the back; content with ours for now (church and Wilcox)

I think we'll contend again in 2-3 years. My hopes aren't high for this season bc I'm not going to disappoint myself, per usual.

Just my 2 Lincoln's.

We will still compete for the division bc the East is so weak recently. PHI is the only threat, and they Riley Cooper is their #1 and McCoy has legal issues hovering. This D will be in mid to late range, but more than adequate to get into the playoffs. I like the Linehan pick up more than just about anything we have done, because he will use the talent already here to get this team over the hump. This team would've made the playoffs last season if a decent OC or HC were on the staff (DET/GB/KC) We were one game away, with a terrible D consisting of minimal pass rush and horrid coverage; mainly as a result of poor S play.

Wilcox has had a year to develop (only played S briefly while in college) but Church will continue to be a liability in the passing game. If Rod incorporates more man D (corners) the blown coverages wouldn't be so common. Why we relied on zone when our S play was terrible is something I'm not allowed to ask bc I don't coach in the NFL (listening to ankle grabbers). We should be far off, but we aren't because of the weak division and the parity in the league. You got a good QB, you are eligible for the playoffs every season.

I get what you're saying but I don't think full rebuilds even exist in the NFL anymore. Re-tool? Certainly. Rebuild? I can't even think of the last team to completely rebuild. There's no time in today's NFL for that. Carolina came out of nowhere last season and won the division. Don't be surprised to see them take 3rd in their division this season. One of the teams in the NFC West is going to take a step backwards in the NFC West this season. My bet is on San Fran. Everything is fluid in the NFL.

As for the Cowboys? It's tough to say which direction (record wise) this team is going. I do think we'll be improved on defense and we are in the midst of major transitions on that side of the ball (rebuild would be appropriate for that unit). But the team as a whole isn't rebuilding. In fact, on offense, I'd say this team is fortifying. My expectations are the same as they have been for almost two decades: Cautiously optimistic.

As much as I wanted JFB I love investing in the offensive line. The next qb will probably be drafted high next year and forced into action sooner than the Jones family would like but he will without a doubt have a great group protecting him which should ease some of the growing pains. If a couple of the dline men we added pan out we can get this thing turned around rather quickly.

I blame Aristotle for this. People just have to label things and put it in a categorical box. Aristotles' Categories was the inspiration for this mode of thought in the Renaissance and people trying to force everything into said boxes stunted thought for centuries. Not everything fits into a box.

It blows my mind that Nobody remembers Garrett saying we were rebuilding the day he took over...

Been saying this for awhile now; they will finally have a team built with strong lines and a good overall defense when it's time for Romo to retire. lol
The next QB will have it made, relatively speaking, if it's 2 or more years from now.

Anyway, we've been rebuilding since Garrett got here. Almost the entire roster has turned over...or at least >90% of it.

The next guy will be in a great position and with our schedule we could be in the position to pick up a very talented player.

I agree with your initial statement, but when I think of rebuilding, I don't tend to think of a 4 year process. Bite the bullet, or you might linger in mediocrity (3 straight 8-8's). They really slighted Romo with this structure, and it is unfortunate.

So basically Garrett has been rebuilding while Jerry is just being clueless Jerry, oh we are gonna rock this year, says it every year. Garrett says it's a process, meaning we have been piecing this thing back together. Jerry was busy with his erector set, now he needs a new distraction..

For sure dallas is rebuilding. Not a full rebuild but dallas is 1 or 2 drafts away from fielding a contending team.

It's very hard to find a franchise QB. You don't rebuild when you have one. The idea we have been rebuilding is a myth. This team has always thought they could win with Romo.
dude, we have replaced a huge percentage of the team since changing coaches..

Who believed the Cowboys weren't rebuilding? The roster turnover was a big sign that the team was "re-loading" even if they weren't officially "rebuilding."

No doubt Dallas is trying to rebuild the DL other than that I don't see a major rebuilding project taking place. Offense has some very good weapons capable of putting up the points and with the addition of Martin I hope to see a better and more consistent running game. You want to protect the QB better try running the ball a bit more to keep defense off balance and to stop them from just pinning their ears back and coming after the QB.
