Cooper Rush makes the Cowboys a better team

Mike McCarthy took the job already saddled with Prescott.
Jerry had already decided that he was the future of the franchise, and to object to that would mean not being hired.
Yes, McCarthy was stuck with Dak, and blinded by the job.
Doesn’t say much for McCarthy’s integrity. You have a particularly low opinion of him. How desperate for a head coaching position can a person be to agree, for any length of time, to an owner’s whim? Doesn’t give a fan much reason for hope. Have to wonder what other better players are in reserve roles that should be starting.

Do you really believe Mike McCarthy acted in concert with Jerry Jones to purposely field a less competitive team? And to what end would they do such a thing?

I think McCarthy never had a choice if he wanted the job.
Jerry was ignorant, but he is the boss. He thought Dak would be the guy to make him look good.
He was so very wrong.

Fortunately, Dak is on the sidelines for the rest of the season. He's destroyed the Cowboys future, but the fans get one last chance to see the team operate with a real quarterback under center.
 :lmao:

There is no universe where Cooper Rush is better than Dak. The Cowboys offensive line and TEs did a much better job of blocking and Rush did a good job of throwing his checkdowns but there is a reason the offense only had 3 points through 3 quarters, they couldn't convert 3rd downs and made one big play in the passing game in the entire first half.
Some of these guys have their own universe...they don't change...kinda like Charlie Brown trying to kick a football, knowing Lucy is gonna move it..lol! That doesn't make sense, but it made me giggle....

I dont come here as often anymore.

Last week we had a thread saying Rush should not in NFL….even as a 3rd string backup
This week he's way better than Dak

:lmao:

I say this and Im not a huge Dak fan or detractor

Dak is a more talented QB than Rush. But Rush, in my opinion, just elevates players around him better.
So far, Rush doesn't panic like Dak. Rush doesn't stare down a receiver. But Dak is more athletic and can throw the ball further (with the exception of this season, it seems where Dak reverted). Neither are great long-term prospects. Rush not panicking is pretty much why I'd take him into a playoff game over Dak. Dak's better overall but is a complete choker.

We desperately need a new QB with the physical talent that isn't a mental case.

Cooper Rush rminds me of watching a MLB pitcher who's fastball is in the high 80's, mostly throws slow breaking balls, yet manages to keep winning games. In the playoffs, I would cringe when he came up in the rotation.

I just like how methodical the offense looks with Rush in there. Spreads the ball more rather than forcefeeding two players. I still have no clue why McCarthy talks about Dak "slinging it" like he's prime Aaron Rodgers. Dak should still be playing in the style he played his rookie season. Use the run to set up the pass. Dak should only have around 450 pass attempts a season.

This thinking is poisonous, particularly with Jerry Jones. If he even thinks we have the QB on our roster, he will NEVER try to upgrade and that's what we need, A BRAND NEW QB. Over 30 years since we've drafted a first round QB. We've drafted every position available except QB in the first round, which incidentally is the most important position in the NFL.

Cooper Rush might be better for the team if we can guarantee the defense will hold opponents to less than 20 points.

Cooper Rush has a different objective than Dak Prescott when you consider the way he is used. His job is to not make mistakes and get the ball to the playmakers.

Dak Prescott's job is to be a playmaker. This requires more risk but also offers more reward.

Last season, the Seahawks scored 35 points on the Cowboys...and the Cowboys still won. In a pivotal game during the 2022 season in December the Eagles scored 34 points and the Cowboys won.

Do you envision a scenario like that with Cooper Rush?

This season, additional pressure was placed on Dak. devastating injuries to the defense, particularly at DE and CB left them impotent. Furthermore, the lack of a running game and increased expectation resulting from his contract was just too much for Dak.

With the offense passing 70% of the time while protecting Dak with two rookie starters, it was just a matter of time before Dak got hurt. Yes, the injury was not from direct contact but the strain of his body having to evade the rush combined with the times he was hit had to be a contributing factor.

Cooper Rush's ability has a ceiling that, at present, the defense cannot typically compensate for. Last game both the defense and special teams were able to do.

However, to expect this type of performance from the defense and special team on a weekly basis is unrealistic, particularly as we go into December and opponents jockey for playoff positioning.

Rush is a smarter player who looks like he can go through progressions better, but he lacks any physical ability to have long term success.
Does not have the arm strength to throw the out patterns and certainly is not a running threat....Other than that he is a pretty damn good QB...Especially for a backup.

Teams don't score as much when the Cowboys control the time of possession.
That's why Cooper Rush is effective. He does enough to keep the opposing offense off the field and let's the Cowboys defense rest.
