It's funny to me that Kellen Moore played a half, threw a touchdown pass and led us to a field goal against second-team defenders and many are like "Meh," while Rush playing a half did the same with nearly 100 fewer yards passing and a worst completion percentage and seems to be getting praised for it.
Because the numbers don't tell you the whole story. Kellen Moore played with better players too. Most people ripping Kellen Moore are tired of ridiculously weak looking arm.

He looked pretty good, coming in as third string. Especially on that TD throw.

If he can keep it up, he makes it tough to get to a PS.
I dont see a team at this point in his career being willing to use a spot on the roster for him. Not like Matt Moore had when he was plucked. He needs to show more to really entice a team to keep him on the roster, but he does have time to do it.

At this point in the preseason, I think he is PS safe

Totally agree, I am as guilty as anyone of hyping prospects but every year there are a half dozen rookies that fans think will never make it to the Practice Squad - but they always do. Moore is a good example but I think we have only lost a couple in the last five years.

In a real game against real NFL players that actually start, you want Moore.

No. I am pretty sure I know what I want without someone else telling me. Moore has been in the league for a while now and really just isn't that good. I think Rush can be really good back up, maybe even more. I don't think our chances of winning a bunch of games improve a whole lot with Moore over Rush, so give me the youth and potential. With Dak as the starter, now is the time to get young QBs and groom them and maybe trade them in a year or two, much like NE does it seems pretty regularly. If you want a vet, keep the one that has actually won a game in the NFL. IF we go 3 deep, I want them to cut Moore and keep Rush, its really that simple. If they go 2 deep, I am less inclined to keep Rush but still get rid of Moore.

Well, Linehan absolutely loves Kellen Moore, so you can forget that for now. The guy threw for 400 yards in a game a couple of years ago, and looked pretty good doing it. He is the all-time winningest QB in college history.

Rush looked pretty good against absolutely nobody that will be on an NFL roster in a month. Yay. He's years away.

Yes, it's a weak arm. No, he'll never be a star QB in the NFL. How many current backups will? One?

If you had to play a game or two without Dak, Moore is exactly the kind of QB you want. Smart, knows the playbook inside and out, and safe with the ball. You adjust your offense (and defense) accordingly for those two games and do your best.

History is wrought with thousands of big-armed QBs who were too stupid or too scared to do anything. Give me the smart guy with gonads every time.

The key to your post is that Moore knows the playbook inside and out. Thats what you want in your backup.

All Rush is missing is the experience. He's the guy with the upside. Rush won't help you in 2017. But he has a higher ceiling than Moore will ever have. He just needs knowledge of the playbook and the reps. And even then its no guarantee. Guys like him flame out all the time.

But he is a guy worth developing.

Rush is right where Romo was once upon a time. Same with Kurt Warner. It's a lonely existence for a few years, and Rush is the only person who really cares about his success....for now.

Put the work in, and a couple of years from now, perhaps he'll work his way into a tradeable commodity for us. Unless Dak goes awol, which is unlikely.

I've been wondering when Cooper Rush would get his own thread. The kid looked pretty good for his first outing. We'll see what he's got this preseason.

After game one, of course. Lots of guys have had a good game and then a disastrous one. Though, if he straight-lines it, I think it'd be close.

Moore is obviously not as physically gifted as the majority of the guys he competes against.

What I think is often overlooked is the value he adds to the team via his relationship with Dak.

I'd rather have a guy on my roster who helps my starter play better than a guy who is a better physical talent. Rush may develop into something in the future, but I prefer Moore's contributions to the team right now.

Here's a quote from Dak from a 12/29/2016 article on dal.247sports.com :

On Moore:

"[He's] a genius behind the scenes, who doesn't get enough credit for what he does helping me out and helping this offense out. ... He's an offensive coordinator in his own mind. He's simply a genius when it comes to helping Coach Linehan out and early in the week giving looks, helping me out with things the defense does, maybe little keys here and there to tip me off or coverages or blitzes."

Just a guess, but I don't think he gets that from somebody like Rush at this point. If they're high on him, they should put him on the P/S.

If thats the rule though, we never get a "David Irving"

Maybe, but we seem to be able to find some good young players and then lose some each year. David Irving could be really good but,
his decision making brain is less than desirable right now.

I prefer a dual threat kind of guy as my backup and Kellen is just as basic as it gets.

He's like a default player on a video game.
I see this too..

But it's hard to tell if he is doing what Linehan wants..

and not being creative.

Stick to the basics and be our bottom line guy who knows the playbook.

We need to see more of him.

I don't want it to be like Weeden where we really knew little before he he had to play for us..

with disasterous results for the team in 2015 where he and the other QBs cratered.

It would have been painful to watch Kellen Moore for more than a half last night. I couldn't stand to watch that weak arm and lack of mobility in today's NFL. After the first quarter, I was looking for McCown to come in. Rush was a breath of fresh air. I think Rush pretty much sealed the deal with me when he ran the read option.

Sometimes you just have to go with your gut reaction. Moore at QB will win few games, if any.

I am guessing if Miami were interested in any of the available Dallas QBs, their priority would be McCown, Rush, and then Moore.

I know it's early but I kinda just have a feeling it will turn into a Matt Moore situation, with the Cowboys trying to get him on the PS and losing him. But hey, if he can steal the job from Kellen, that'd be awesome.
