It's funny to me that Kellen Moore played a half, threw a touchdown pass and led us to a field goal against second-team defenders and many are like "Meh," while Rush playing a half did the same with nearly 100 fewer yards passing and a worst completion percentage and seems to be getting praised for it.

People also tend to forget Moores feet in the pocket. If he was 6'4" and had a cannon this dude would be a legimate stud. His feet are fantastic and his accuracy is something else. That throw to Butler was right on the money.

Moore isn't going anywhere but depending on how Rush does in the film room, TC, and the rest of the preseason he could be kept as a third. Not as likely as not but we'll see.

If he had the arm strength and athleticism, he would probably be a starter somewhere. I'm all for developing players who might someday be a starter, but Moore's lot is being a backup because of what he lacks. He's not ever going to step in there and create the QB controversy that Floaty wants, but anyone criticizing his performance last night is only doing it because they don't like the player.

Take away the package — don't look at who was the QB — and look at the numbers: 12-17 (70.5 percent), 182 yards, 1 TD, 1 int. Tell me that's not something you can live with from your backup.

Against second stringers in a preseason game?

NO!

If we carried Dak,Moore and Rush on our roster I'd be fine with that.
Dak is a stout dude and sometimes you take chances. We've gone just two Q.B. before.

Moore is obviously not as physically gifted as the majority of the guys he competes against.

What I think is often overlooked is the value he adds to the team via his relationship with Dak.

I'd rather have a guy on my roster who helps my starter play better than a guy who is a better physical talent. Rush may develop into something in the future, but I prefer Moore's contributions to the team right now.

Here's a quote from Dak from a 12/29/2016 article on dal.247sports.com :

On Moore:

"[He's] a genius behind the scenes, who doesn't get enough credit for what he does helping me out and helping this offense out. ... He's an offensive coordinator in his own mind. He's simply a genius when it comes to helping Coach Linehan out and early in the week giving looks, helping me out with things the defense does, maybe little keys here and there to tip me off or coverages or blitzes."

Just a guess, but I don't think he gets that from somebody like Rush at this point. If they're high on him, they should put him on the P/S.
that's a hell of a quote from Dak!

I believe Rush surprised everybody with his ability to move the sticks.

The first downs rushing were beautiful.

Key plays that made the win possible.

Want to see more of him.

I know Kellen is Linehan's pet cat..

but Kellen is not scoring much.

It's about scoring and not necessarily looking good and having potential like Kellen is doing.

He's doing just enough to hold onto a roster spot.

We need better.

We need somebody who can step in and make something happen.

Our defense would never hold up with Kellen.

While he wants to work the ball down the field with short throws..

we would be 24 pts. behind.

Rush maybe the guy.
Redball! How I missed your one-liner format!
I remember getting on you on that, a long time ago, and you told me you liked to give space for others to criticize the statements you presented.
True brilliance and a good soul. I don't think I questioned you since.

Salute.

It's not the player I dislike, but his throws. Anything over 10 yards is lobbed. Yes, he's had success (stats), but the same passes that are completed have a high probability of INT against a starting NFL secondary.

I don't dislike the man. I dislike his arm.

On a brighter note, he did show a high decision quality in finding the open man.

His deep throws are "lobbed" but that doesn't mean they are all thrown up for grabs. Most of his passes were where they needed for only his receivers to make plays on them. In fact, the truly, up-for-grab passes that he threw were either incomplete or intercepted. He did this throwing to second-stringers against second-stringers, so better receivers give him a better chance of completing those passes against first-stringers.

Now granted, his arm is going to be a disadvantage, but his intelligence is an advantage and his accuracy isn't bad. I'm certainly not saying he's anything special, but I didn't see anything yesterday to hold against him. He completed 70 percent of his passes and threw for 182 yards despite that weak arm.

Exactly. This is what fans want their backup QB to look like:

Ya I really dont understand why there is all this hate for Moore? I went back and watched his plays and i thought hee looked pretty darn good. He was accurate and made pretty good decisions. Rush didnt look too bad for a rookie, but there is no way he looked better than Moore. Plus i really don't understand why there has been a live drawn in the sand over our 2nd and 4th string QB.

Some of these comments about Moore are idiotic at best and thats being nice? I'm wondering if some of you were watching the sane game or are just feels in deep cover. The first long throw to Butler was a really good throw...butler had to adjust his speed a little, but ous not like he had to cone to a complete stop or come back for the ball... the second long throw was a good throw as well... even better adjustment by butler. You guys act like hee its the only QB that doesn't depend I his receivers to make adjustments on the ball. I'm guessing every pass by the likes of Dak, Romo, Rogers and Brady were all perfect strikes in stride right? He put the ball in the right spots were only the players could get the catch... even on the interception, he put the ball where it was supposed to be, and have the reciever a chance to make a play... the td to Rico was a prett dang goid pass as well....i just don't see what some of you on here are seeing. He reminds me of garrett. Not as physically gifted but very smart. All in seeing are opinions that are smothered in bias with nothing really to back it up.

Moore reminds me of Chad Pennington. Pennington was bigger, but also had a pop corn arm. Did pretty well in the league for a while even though he had awful arm, because he was smart as a whip. The fear with Moore is roughly half the field isn't in play because he can't make all the throws. I think when Pennington played the DB's weren't as quick and fast as they are now. Always wondered how you could improve a noodle arm. You would think there would be some way to make that arm stronger.

Cooper Rush is off to a good start, no doubt there. If he keeps performing at that rate of success, he just might deserve a spot on the practice squad. It'll be tough for the FO to cut either Moore or McCown, unless Rush does equally well or better in all the preseason games that remain, however. I'm quite sure he's attracting the full attention of the staff and the FO as well. Here's hoping that Rush continues to impress in the preseason games that remain if he's destined to force a tough decision in the final cuts.

Kellen Moore has way too many intangibles to get cut. He clearly is a secret weapon off the field with game planning and coaching up Dak etc. 3 QBs on the 53? If Rush continues to impress, I say yes.
