No, Jerry would look like an idiot (moreso than he already does) for signing Dak to that awful contract.
I agree that this is probably part of the mindset IF Trey does do well. But the other part is that Jerry will also continue to look dumb for doing the Trey trade in the first place if he doesn't do well. In the court of public opinion, Jerry is going to lose regardless at this point.

The only other possible mindset, which I would not give Jerry or Stephen credit for, is they feel the season is already lost, they think Trey is going to be good and want to re-sign him at the end of the year for cheap so if they don't play him, he won't ask for that much and be another cheap signing. Also other factor is that Trey says forget this and goes elsewhere since he is a FA but we all know his choices are minimal.
At the end of the day, nobody can't figure out what Jerry is thinking cause it's not logical and truly idiotic or delusional so no point even trying.

Their team is very bad. Not a good situation for any QB, much less a backup QB who literally had no offensive line by the end of last night.

He's still a manageable backup on a competent team. But it's asinine to be playing him over Lance at this point. This team does EVERYTHING wrong.
Yeah... cause at least Trey has wheels and can run vs Rush... rushing in the ground.

Galling to think the team went 4-1 with Rush as the starter in 2022. Just shows how loaded that team was. Shame Dak and the offense couldn't put up 20 points against the 49ers in the play offs.
They were not loaded. But they were good enough to win that game.

Finally someone gets it. You know what I meant. Or at least you are the first to admit it.
yeah man, I've been knowing it...

the team is a joke but they are at the end of the day not bad talent evaluators. If Trey Lance goes on a 3-4 game win streak that will cause even more turmoil in the long-term...

they chose to tuck their tale, take a high-draft pick and let Trey Lance's cap hit be the Sunk Cost...funny thing is they paid Dak 250M to trot him out there to do the same thing except EXPECT him to win the division and have buyers remorse so the development of Trey suffers at the end of the day. MM is also a lame duck, he has no say - probably wants to start Trey but was told him to shut up.

Rush is a backup for a reason, I don't know what kind of expectations we have, lol. Also we have subpar pass blocking and a terrible run game which are 2 things that were better the last time Rush was asked to start multiple games.

I've thought this as well. But if I'm Trey and they aren't putting me on the field even when they are trotting out Rush I'm going to go to any other team that will give me a chance because the Cowboys clearly aren't giving him one.

And I think Jerry looks like less of an idiot if Trey fails. He only traded a 4th. Which the 49ers used to select...Malik Mustapha and his six tackles on the year.

Ah, yes, the fear is real.
As scared as I am that Nathan Peterman will become an NFL star. I genuinely do not get how people can be so attached to the idea that someone who has been AWFUL every single time he gets a shot somehow just needs one more shot and he will show he is great.

If they wanted to grab the practice squad QBs on other teams and start them I would at least respect that more because at least those players have not been awful at the NFL level. You can at least argue they have not had a shot so they at least, however unlikely it honestly is, could actually be good. You cannot say that about Lance. We have seen him for 4 years at the NFL level now and he has not fixed any of the glaring red flags that make him unable to be an NFL QB.

By the way I do not think there is another Brock Purdy just sitting down on the depth chart who could quickly grow if given the chance but at least in this case that could be the case. I just want to know what people have seen from Lance, at literally any level, that makes people think he has what it takes to play QB in the NFL.

That is the point. We really have not seen anything from Trey until they give him the chance.
The anti Trey crowd always ... in the past, at any level crap .... well he is here now, don't look at the past. ... see what he can do NOW. Even with this lame team surrounding him.

If he fails, then they move on. Draft a QB. However Jerry will not do that. He has his $240 million QB to keep losing with.

There are 25 college QBs right now who would be better. He’s absolutely a waste of a roster spot. In the 30 years I’ve watched high level Texas and Louisiana football, there are some HS QBs who could do better right now.
wow.

both louisanna AND texas?

that should end all debate right there.

Yeah…Im positive you're way smarter than dozens of NFL coaches

im not a Cooper fan either, but just sayin

he sucked but he did just have
1TD, 1 int
354 yards
in an NFL game vs a top 5 NFL defense

again, Im not a fan of his
brush the 2 costly Fublmes under the rug?? The only NFL coaching Staffs that like him are are ours he's halfway decent he should be the emergency third but moving forward we need to change our 2025 quarterback room we need 2 new backups dudes maxed out we saw what he has and by the way a lot of those yards were in garbage time isn't that what it is if you lose a game like that you can't count any of the stats playing from behind? He basically had three turnovers 3 costly possessions besides a lot of bad throws to go in that mix yeah if you just post what you posted but our staff you do realize how inept our coaching Staffs have been they put him on the practice squad 3 or 4 times nobody claimed him they cut him and brought him back nobody claimed him nobody even Kelly Moore no ex coaches have brought him into their teams when they left that's how much but i said he is and your eyes because this team and jerry jones likes him?

I get what you're saying he's probably worth having around in camp he's probably worth keeping maybe as the practice squad guy or maybe the third emergency guy but I don't want him as our backup we should be grooming a backup at all times it should be the youngest guy once your team no longer has a shot that's typically when your main quarterback goes down the season's pretty much over but you add that we had about 18 people on IR more guys got hurt we should not be playing Cooper rush we don't need to see what he's got we don't even need to win games we need to be grooming some players a whole bunch of year 1 to year three players should be playing here on out that's the point now I get what that guy said he exaggerated a little bit Cooper rush is not the worst quarterback I've ever seen but I'd rather have a younger guy with a better arm a little mobility somebody that can at least have a shot in the NFL to be a starter as my number 2. I know that's not all possible but let's stop acting like just go back to his last three games 2022 Rams eagles this year eagles Texans he's not look good at all and yes he had some moments last night but his three costly turnovers was supposed to be his caveat this is the dumbest narrative I've ever heard because some of y'all didn't watch the games the man had only 5 3 interceptions and two fumbles in 2022 a 58% completion percentage yeah that might be on par with those college kids he's talking about I realize again it's an exaggeration but this dude was talked up like he was the second coming of Joe Montana sitting on the bench and that the narratives were he would have played better against San Francisco in the playoffs than that that we should have never brought dak back that year in 2022 even though when Prescott came back he clearly took our offense from bottom 10 back to top five immediately the scoring nearly doubled that is why they're talking about Cooper rush in this manner cause those who have their eyes wide open he's just a Jag of a backup he's not even one of the top backups.

That is the point. It would make Jerry look even worse. If such a thing could occur.
But it wouldn't. He already looks bad over the Dak deal. Trey Lance becoming an NFL star would make him a genius. You aren't thinking like Jerry who spins stories all the time.

Better to find out for real then. He can't be worse than what Dak was this year.
Dak has played very bad this year.

Now he can spend more time overlooking his vacant lot waiting for the Dak mansion that Jerry built (giving him the huge wasted contract).

You know there’s a reason no good QBs are on the roster behind Dak since 2017, Dak wilts under pressure and good competition. The backup is a guy who couldn’t make a NFL practice squad when released by the Cowboys.
