This is a question for 41% of the fans in the poll that want him starting over Dak. He's a free agent after the season. He's your starting QB......what are you going to do? Keep in mind he has a total of what, NFL games under his belt.

Curious about this, since there is a poll where nearly half of our fans/posters want him starting over Dak and the fact he's a free next season.
  • franchise tag......$29
  • long-term contract
  • let him walk

Yep...reality sets in. Obviously a franchise tag isn't possible. And really, there is no way to justify a long term contract based on 4 games where he has been a bus driver. I really don't think outside teams are going to see him as a franchise starting QB either. As a free agent, he will get really good backup money with a chance to earn more through incentives or he will get a low end starters deal.

The fact of the matter is what Cooper Rush has done so far this season has priced himself out of being Dak's back-up as there simply isn't the cap space to pay him $5M plus. He is not a franchise candidate for that kind of money and with Dak's contract Rush will not be a starter in Dallas.

Rush has helped himself and his family financially this season and he deserves it so let's just see what happens this season and thank him for a job well done when he leaves.

coaches know best, FO knows best, they wil make the best decisions.

see examples im sure i can dig out a larger list, buyer beware of the mirage
Bortles( i know more of starter but still an example of a mirage) got paid big money an afccg because of his defense and team play never really amounted too much after,. castle 11-5 one year , matt Flynn small sample success go paid, failed(wasnt Flynn also with Mcarthy, seems to be a backup qb whisperer), case Keenum, foles and others who left the teams as a successful backup, got paid and never had success as a starter... far too many to list

29mil whose going to pay him that, curious not us who else?

Y'all think Cooper has value on the open market? lol.

If y'all really think someone is going to offer this guy more than 9 million, you're dreaming.
I think he could get 12mil somewhere. Bottom 16 teams always looking for a bridge qb..29 heck NO!!

real question is would the Cowboys offer him 9 as backup , would that be enough to keep him?

But remember, over 41% of fans/poster sees him as a worthy NFL starting QB.
sure bottom 15 starter type. He is better than a handful of those down there.

Hes Matt castle 2.0 be good one season get paid go to team needing starters but they dont have a good team IE poor OL, poor D, not great coaching and maybe he understands this, does Rush know his own limitations maybe we pay him 9mil to stay as our BU vs him leave for a starting gig and fail.

these types of fringe starters, who are truly backups only succeed on teams who are playing great in other areas, if they go elsewhere, they aren't getting on those teams.

Could he start for teams like Houston (Davis Mills the starter), Indy (Matt Ryan the starter), Washington (Wentz the starter), Seattle (Geno Smith the starter), Saints (Winston the starter), Panthers (Mayfield the starter), or Atlanta (Mariota the starter)? Yes, I think he could and for a reasonable price for those teams.

So those 7 teams represent almost 22% of the teams in the NFL so it's not far fetched to think he might get a chance to start elsewhere.....at least as a 1-2 year stop gap type QB until a rookie/younger QB develops.

Blue......no way in hell his agent is going to take $12M to be an NFL starting QB. I'm guessing at least $20m would his floor.

One bus driver on this team is enough. Dak is an albatross around this team's neck....Jerry pooped the bed on that one. As for a starting job for Coop, he is a lot better than some out there already. You think Geno Smith, Justin Fields, Taysom Hill, Mayfield, Davis Mills are all starting QB worthy right now? Get real. Not talking about elite QB starting money for Cooper, but he certainly would be making 20x or more what he makes now. Not bad at all. Reality is numerous teams have no real franchise QB starting for them.

what if that all hes offered?? then what does he do? some are overvaluing his market, the same way you are his current play,.. the rest of the league can break down film and truly set his market.

his record is not what will set his market, they are smarter than that, records are team stats, they will watch all plays and then decide who he is.

issues are fans are not that smart..lmao.

I think we need to see the whole season before talking about this seriously.
The more information you have, the better chance you have of making a quality decision.
Frankly, I am just enjoying the moment.

It's a quarterback starved league. Look at some of the contracts that have been offered after a limited showcasing. Of course I think the money won't be outrageous either, at least based on this market.

Nobody with any sense really wants Cooper Rush as their long-term franchise QB.

There are two groups who want Cooper Rush

The first and main ones are the ones who just cannot stand Dak and do not think he is a good QB, they will take anyone else, even to the detriment to the team. It's just an agenda with them to get rid of Dak.

The second group are those who think Cooper Rush has found some magic and do not believe you replace a QB who is on a role because it will mess up the team.

Personally I think Dak is a better QB, but also think you keep Rush going as long as he is winning.
