Was the tazing necessary? No.

Could it have injured the woman and opened the cop and the police department up to litigation? Yes.

Dumb cop.

Do you legally HAVE to sign those tickets?
In Texas at least, you don't have to, but they can take you to jail if you don't. Actually, they can take you to jail even if you do sign it.

I guess he could have tackled her, stuffed his knee into the middle of her back and cuffed her by force.

She deserved it.

Or he could have just handed it to her and had her sign it when she said she would sign it instead of losing his temper, yelling like a maniac and pushing a 72 year old woman.

If you can't handle that situation better, you don't deserve to wear a badge.

**** that. You wanna play the "take me to jail" game, you don't get the chance to sign it when you see someone is serious.

That old lady behaved like a spoiled teenager and got what she deserved.

The video is also cropped so who knows what took place in between the shown segments.

Obey the cop...Don't get Tazed. Do we really need to make it more complicated?

The cops have a tough enough job and don't get paid nearly as much as they should for it. For all he knew, the 72 year old granny had a gun and would pull it.

In this day and age, I don't blame them for not taking any chances.

This is completely irrelevant. You claimed that he had no other option but to tackle her and knee her in the back. Of course he had other options. The tazer was unnecessary. She posed no threat. She was willing to do as she was initially asked. He refused due to some stupid macho cop BS that was really quite childish.

People are stupid. People are jerks to cops. Cops have to adapt to both of these very obvious facts because people aren't going to change. You can't just simply taze everyone. And if we do allow cops to simply taze everyone, let me know, so I can invest in whatever company sells tazers, because there's a lot of stupid, arrogant people out there that will get tazed.

Really? That's the only option when someone doesn't obey a cop? They call get tazed even if it's completely unnecessary?

Well, if he felt threatened by the 72 year old woman he most certainly should have handled the situation COMPLETELY different. He very clearly did not feel threatened. There was no place for her to go. She had items no at which to lunge. He could have attempted to pat her down. He didn't. And he didn't need to. He simply gave her in to her baiting him. Cops shouldn't give in to someone baiting them like that. Their job is to be above that type of behavior, not to give in to it. But he did. And he's a bad cop for it.

Its not a matter of posing a threat. She was under arrest at that point and was unwilling to go. I never said he had no other option, I said he could have done that because thats what happens in some cases when people refuse arrest. In other cases, people get shock treatment. Just a guess but if he would have dragged her old *** down, he would have broken something.

I'm not a fan of being a ruthless jerk to someone and then expecting any sort of reprieve from that person. If you're given the options of signing or going to jail, you sign or go to jail. There isn't some middle ground where you test out the waters to see if the ultimatum is legitimate and then back down when everything starts crumbling on you. If there was, you could have people handcuffed and on their way to jail when they change their mind and ask to be taken back to their car so they can sign the ticket.

And yes we can taze everyone. Everyone who resists arrests, that is.

Goodness. This could have all been easily avoided by her just doing what she was asked to begin with instead of having to be asked to do it a half dozen or so times.

I suppose he could have just kept arguing with her till she did it to avoiding having to use the tazer on her but that's how it goes i guess.

The guy didn't even attempt to arrest her or cuff her in any way. He went straight to the taser. It's a crutch for the weak cops who can't handle situations without it.

Gosh, how did cops ever survive confrontations with little ol' ladies before they had their tasers! Life must have been sooooo rough on those poor cops.

You don't have to expect reprieve from someone you're a jerk to. But you should be able to expect a modicum of self-composure from an armed police man. And the middle ground bit you throw out is hilarious. People defending this cop have no claim for middle ground. The taser is the most extreme route he could have taken short of using his pistol. He sucks as a cop and has to resort to his crutch because he can't even properly give an old woman a ticket. He really should question his manhood after this incident, not to mention whether he has the balls to be a cop.

What a pansy cop.

He couldn't give her a ticket properly? Did you even watch the video? Only a weak, over litigious ambulance chaser would find the cop at fault.

When a police officer turns his lights on, you are officially under arrest until otherwise noted. (give a ticket and released)

The lady was belligerent and combative. She seem to think she was above the law. She shouldn't have been fighting him, she should have just accepted it and fought it in court if she felt it was wrong. She was again breaking the law in what she was doing, and the officer couldn't control her. They were next to a highway with cars speeding by. For both of their safety, she got exactly what she should have gotten. Put down in the simplest possible way.

You say pansy cop, I say ******* grandma.
