I got an amazing deal on 2 Winchesters.
One a 30-30, Model 94, pre-1964 edition so it has solid metal works. $200.00.
Looks like this. My all time favorite gun. It had a bit of rust but I worked on it for 4 hours and it looks almost new now.
The other is a .308, Model 88. If you haven't seen one you're missing out. The stock looks like a bolt action, but it is the smoothest lever action ever. $200.00 as well.
The .308 had a Bushnell zoom scope on it. It is supposed to be sighted to 1200 yards but it was really off. As I started trying to adjust it I noticed that the scope mounts did not match. One was round bottom and short. The other was flat bottom and taller. That meant the scope was pointed downward at a slight angle.
I looked it up on Midway and the correct scope for a model 88 is a one piece mount with a rounded bottom. Weaver #53. I found one on e-bay for 4 bucks.
This is almost exactly what my gun looks like with the Bushnell scope on it.
If you look closely you can see it is a clip load. The clip only holds 5 and one cannot be int he chamber. I am currently trying to find out if I can manufacture or buy a banana clip for a full load.
The previous owner had cancer and committed suicide and his wife just wanted the guns out of her house.
So, I got both guns for $400.00.
Score.
