Look at the previous post where the quote from Garrett was given.

And considering that Costa had more snaps at center during his abbreviated 2012 season than Gurode has had with two different teams since the start of the 2011 season speaks volumes about Gurode's ability to play center at an NFL level.

Thats because we had no one else better than Costa in 2012 - which shows how badly we are at drafting. Also, if Costa was that good why did we use our 1st round pick on a center?

You also have to take note that Costa was cut once we found a center. While Gurode's performance may not be up to par with his probowl days, the Raiders think he is worth keeping.

All in all, I stand with my opinion. Letting Gurode go was a terrible decision. It held the team back for years until finally we had to use a 1st round pick on Frederick. Think of what Romo could have done without having a passrusher in his face all the time.

I don't have a problem letting Gurode go– he was shot.

Gurode didn't even play in 2012.

As I've posted in repeatedly, Costa may not have been the answer, but Gurode, with his large paycheck wasn't either.

Last that I heard is that Gurode is playing for Raiders and its Costa would just got cut is the one who is washed up.

The Cowboys upper- management has been saying that Costa was the next big thing since slice bread and that Gurode was fat and lazy and not worth the pay. Honestly, I stopped believing what comes out of the Dallas management team these days because some of the players we cut actually are quite productive on other teams. Marty Bennett and Flozelle Adams to name of few.

When the Dallas upper-management thinks that Costa had a bright future without nothing to show for in 3 years, than its the Dallas upper-management that you should be upset with - not some lowly forum poster like me.

I'm not upset with you.

Nor am I upset with the Cowboy upper management. Clearly (at least to some) Gurode was toast after his surgery prior to the start of training camp 2011. I'm sure the Cowboys were expecting Gurode to be like the Gurode of old... But all he was... was old... out of shape... and not capable of doing his job.

I don't think the Cowboys were expecting Gurode to need surgery so close to the start of training camp.

At that point Dallas didn't have a lot of choices.

Gurode wasn't capable of starting at center, and was asked to reduce his salary being that he was now a bench-rider.

Gurode declined, and was released. He had tryouts with a couple other teams and finally settled with Baltimore who played him mostly at guard... not center. And he played miserably. He wasn't asked back for 2012.

The Raiders signed him as primarily a guard in 2013.

It's not 2014 training camp... Kreskin will have to tell us if/where Gurode or Costa is playing.

The facts are that Costa had his shot and he had to be replaced. Don't you think the Fred draft pick spoke volumes about his quality of play? I don't think that the two or three games that Costa played fairly well in was as impressive as you think. Is it so hard to admit you were wrong?

I almost never do when all the available evidence suggests I'm actually not.

And you're still avoiding what really happened at C in 2012. Not that that season should really be an exception for you given your assessments of 2011 and 2013.

He was injured and played average football IIRC!, when he played. Am I missing a Pro Bowl appearance by Costa? He was so good that they drafted Fred in the next draft. That says what I need to know:

That he wasn't as good as a first round player coming up as an UDFA and converting to C after only playing it at Maryland as a senior? Got it. But literally everybody on this board understood that. That was never the question, and we both know it.

It has been shown that he us not good enough to keep as a starter on the oline of this team. I said it after his first year. You and the Cowboys need to learn how to evaluate olinemen. They gave it a shot and Costa wasn't the answer, but you keep arguing that he was. Again, if he was do damn good, why was Fred drafted ?
