He was set to make 1.5 mill. I expect the plan is to either draft a G and use Bern as the backup at center or re-sign Waters down the line

Those posts were not as good as this, a year ago this coming Monday:

At the NFL scouting combine, owner and general manager Jerry Jones praised Costa’s smarts and work ethic while also acknowledging limitations. Jones said the Cowboys would need strong guard play on either side of Costa.

“I can see going with Costa at center for several years,” Jones said last week.

That was what was so bad about the player. He could not play guard. Or center. Or really at all.

Jones went overboard with praise for him after his first exhibition as well.

Costa is going to play a lot for the Cowboys . . . now. Now! I don't know how that works, but I'm glad we've got him. At this juncture, I don't know if anyone has had a better preseason than he's had. I put him right there at the top from my perspective with preseason work and how impressed we've been with him.

That's true, but they seem to like Weems, who is a lot cheaper.

We have already reportedly been interested in USC C Marcus Martin. I am sure we will be looking at other draft prospects as well.

I would prefer to get a swing tackle a little better, especially since we will have to move on from Free in a year or two.
