The debate I remember from 2012 was whether Costa should get any credit for his performance against the eventual Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens.

Reading in other sports, baseball has more patience in player development. One team's 26 year- old first round draft choice looks to be ready to move to the big leagues.

I remember those discussions, too. Where the idea was that his improvement in 2012 in limited reps either didn't happen, or it didn't count.

you are so wrong its sad. He did not beat out the incumbent; only the costa homers still cling to that. Why are you unwilling to admit you were wrong? The only reason Gurode was gone and Costa was staying was money. And anyone looking at how costa played thinking he had any business starting is insane. That was the first real evidence that Houck had lost it as a coach. He was not NFL starting quality. The fact that he did start for us is an indictment of everyone involved in that decision.

You should be paying closer attention to the facts of the matter, burm. You may not have liked it, but what happened is what happened.

you are truly blind if you do not think that the only reason that Costa was around was becasue Gurode was too expensive. But then as regards the O line you always have been blind.

Blind, and exactly right as to what the team would do. The facts are the facts.

I agree with you. I don't remember anyone at that time state that Costa was better than Gurode. In fact, I would wage a pretty penny that Gurode in fat and lazy mode, would beat out and healthy and fit Costa during that year.

Look at the previous post where the quote from Garrett was given.

And considering that Costa had more snaps at center during his abbreviated 2012 season than Gurode has had with two different teams since the start of the 2011 season speaks volumes about Gurode's ability to play center at an NFL level.

All of this may be true about Guorode, but it's still arguing which is better - gonorrhea or syphilis? Just because it was cheaper to catch syphilis from one party doesn't make it coveted.

As I said before, I'm not stating that Costa was that right choice, but it was plain that Gurode's career as an NFL center was over with during training camp 2011.

I'm thinking now the Cowboys re-sign Ryan Cook. Not as young as Costa, but will only command a veteran minimum salary and offers more position flex (has played center, guard, and tackle during his career).

Cook is a horrific player. There's no need to resign him. Get yourself a C/G type in the draft and add another C in UDFA.

That's if you don't upgrade the starting G position in the draft and move Bernadeau to where he belongs.

I was just going to reply with that- Bernadeau is probably the best option as the backup C. My logic with re-signing Cook is I don't think the Cowboys can afford to use a draft pick on a reserve center. And the Cowboys didn't cut Cook after he got hurt in camp, so they must see something we don't.

The facts are that Costa had his shot and he had to be replaced. Don't you think the Fred draft pick spoke volumes about his quality of play? I don't think that the two or three games that Costa played fairly well in was as impressive as you think. Is it so hard to admit you were wrong?

One more decent draft pick needs to be used on the guard/center position. Draft a good guard and Bern can be the back-up to both positions. That would be my solution.
