Costa is bad and I would see how Kowalski is this week

Gurode and Costa's issues were completely different. Costa was snapping the ball on the wrong count, Gurode just flat out couldn't snap it ... they were habitually sailing over head and skipping through dirt. And if anyone thinks Gurode just did it a couple of times over the last few years, I would definitely like to know what they're drinking during the games.

The fact that it happened so many times is actually more telling to me that there was Commanders chicanery going on, because it was too many times to be some incidental mix up on snap counts that happen from time to time. Maybe it was the Commanders calling the snaps, maybe it was Romo's ribs and lungs preventing him from clearly calling the snap count ... but something definitely was going on outside the norm from every other time we've seen Costa play football. The guy was all Academic ACC honoree, I'm pretty sure he's capable of remembering a snap count.

I should know better but here it goes. Gurode became a goat for bad snaps. Costa is now being served up for bad snaps. If Kowalski comes in and follows suit I think you have to look at the QB. I can't believe that if that scenario happens the QB is free from criticism.

Craig

It was not just bad snaps he was snapping before Romo was ready. Gurode had bad snaps at times but he was not sending it back as Romo was making adjustments. I don't know what Costa deal was but those snaps were on him

well clearly you are smoking something; gurode did not have a problem with bad snaps the last few years. And it was only a couple. Sorry to destroy your rant with some actual facts

I'm sorry, what actual facts? I saw a biased opinion from the board's biggest Gurode fanboy, but no facts. Where's your data?

Gurode is on 103.3 right now and says...

-- He called Costa to give him a pep talk this morning. (What a low-character player... Glad we dumped him.)

-- Said teams do this from time to time but Bowen may have had a bead on our count since he played for us and especially against Costa.

-- Said you just have to tune it out and be sure you're hearing Tony. If it keeps happening, you tell the OL coach so he can change the cadence. If it still keeps going, you warn the refs and a penalty should be called.

-- Says he didn't see his release coming but it's part of the business and he still wishes us well.

I think if you go back and look there were some snaps from Gurode that caught Romo by surprise. I also think the question still has to asked, if you continue to have problems in that area you have to look at the QB. Point being, if you keep changing centers but the problem still persists, what steps do you take?

we are talking 2 centers Gurode and Costa. Kowalski did not seem to have an issue when he came in. QB has to make adjustments and the Center has to pay attention, other guys were not jumping offsides it was only the center hiking the ball before Romo was ready

In another thread it was mentioned that when Romo ripped on Costa, Costa told him that he couldn't hear him (Romo).

Between the crowd noise, the Commanders mimicking the cadence and Romo's diminished lung capacity I find that very believable.

Andre Gurode said the coaching staff should have changed the cadence after the first errant snap.

I don't think Costa is as much to blame as what some think within this thread.

where are YOUR facts to support your bile? I see none. So pot meet kettle.

I am not saying Kowalski had any issues, I am saying that if the same issue develops with Kowalski you have to look at the QB at some point in time.

I haven't rewatched the game yet but on the replays of Felix's long runs, he completely dominated Cofield. Again, I'll have to watch the game again to really see how he performed overall asde from the botched snaps.

Let me just say I'm more interested in having it corrected regardless of fault. If Costa was having a hard time hearing the count then we need to find a way to make sure him and Tony are on the same page.

There was 1 obvious play where they were calling the cadence. You could see the DE (and I have to see the play again, but it was right where Bowen plays), he was visibly yelling something and then jumped up in the air as the ball is snapped. It was obvious he's trying to distract Costa unless Haslett teaches a new 0-point stance technique.

I know Ware was flagged for this, I think in his rookie year.

YR

Also, when Costa moved the ball and was called for a false start, Romo immediately pointed out to the officials that the Commanders had simulated the snap. He was adamant, but the officials did nothing.

That's where it started. The Commanders got away with it once and that probably led to them doing it more.

It seems to me there are certainly a lot of overreactions to the line play on this board.

Free gives up five pressures, including a sack erased by penalty, on 37 dropbacks, going up primarily against one of the better pass rushers in the league, and everyone's ready to switch him with Smith.

Costa has four bad snaps because of the Commanders calling the cadence or not being able to hear Romo because of the rib/lung issue or whatever, and instead of giving him the benefit of the doubt, we're ready to replace him with Kowalski.

Sometimes I wonder why I come here.

Many already had an agenda with Costa and Free prior to the Monday Night game.

This was their opportunity to "push" their agenda.

You have as many "politicians" on here as you do fans.

There's no doubt that the immediate goal is correcting the problem regardless of fault.

My problem is that even if the Skins were calling out the cadence and they told the refs and the refs laughed in their face and said "deal with it"...........you have to make adjustments!!!!

Change the cadence, go to a silent count, go to a physical call for the ball like raising the leg or using hand signals.......DO SOMETHING TO ADJUST!!!!

Dont just keep having bad snaps over and over and over again. Either the o-line coach or the Garrett should have stepped in and made some sort of adjustment. If we dont get this problem corrected, every freaking team in the league is going to be using this against us.

Let's think here...there were problems with Gurode snapping the ball when Tony wasn't ready. New center, now there are problems with Costa snapping it when Tony isn't ready.

What's the common denominator?

I'm not bashing Tony in any way, but what are the odds?

To me it looks like Tony barks out audibles and fake audibles and blocking, etc. from a dangerous position. Most QB's walk side to side, up to the line, hands around mouth like a megaphone.

Tony stands in the Gun, in the usual spot for receiving the snap, and last night he was clapping his hands, and moving them in front of his belly/body...once it definitely looked like he was calling for the ball, but he was obviously looking somewhere else and focused on something else.

I wouldn't be surprised, after looking at film, if Tony starts moving around in the pocket with hands up to mouth or pointing while making calls. There's no excuse for it happening twice in one game...that's on Costa, but I really think Tony's hand movements while standing right behind the center can be a little confusing if you can't hear his voice clearly....the entire line is obviously going on the snap and not sound because every early snap they were all off and running.

Something to think about and revisit film to see.

The problem is that everybody else on the line seems to know what the snap count is but Costa.

Now why is that?

I give him a pass only because he doesn't have much experience at Center on the Pro level. But this cannot become a trend.
