Well......the issue is the DE you get at 20 likely won't be any better than the DE you get at 28. So you basically are giving away Tony Romo for free. Stay at 28, trade Romo for a pick (that 3rd rounder you mention) and get an extra player. The DE at 28 + the 3rd round player = better deal.
This.....get a player and not a better draft slot...unless they get to #1 and can get Garrett

Derek Barnett could very well be there at pick 20 and he is a good player. There for sure will also be a top corner there. There is an excellent chance that they can get a great player that has fallen a little that will not be on the board at 28.

they won't be that much better than someone at 28 ....in fact I want to trade back from 28 to get an early 2nd and 3rd..... Romo is worth a 1st no matter what the haters here think

Giving Romo away for 6 draft spots would be a nightmare

We released D. Ware to save $7 mill. when he refused to take a paycut and nobody was giving us any offers.

Little different than getting a QB that can put you over the top. Let's face it, Ware wasn't exactly Haley back then either. He was a compliment to Denver's D. He wasn't asked to carry their D the way he was here. Romo won't be asked to carry the offense in Denver or Houston either.....

From 28 to 20 is 8 draft spots. They could get a very good player that fits what they are looking for. I would rather keep Romo, but if they aren't, this is a possible move.

Did Romo put us over the top? Nope. Romo wont be asked to carry the O in Denver or Houston? Neither Seiman or Osweiler were able to carry the offence, Romo will be asked for that, otherwise why trade. Trading a valuable draft pick for Romo would come with a certain expectation. I.e. get us over the hump. Go 505

You not getting a #1 for a 37 yr. old injury plagued player with a high salary. That's not hating it called reality.

Both the Broncos and Texans have very good defenses and offensive weapons. When did Romo have both at the same time here? Romo does not have to carry those teams. The Texans D carried that team last year. The Broncos didn't have consistent QB play but had the weapons to win.....

So we send Romo and pick 28 to the Broncos for pick 20?

So we basically trade Romo to move up 8 spots in the draft....on the trade chart going from 28 to 20 is worth about a 3rd rounder.

Yea, I would do it.
This is a type of trade better done on draft day. You need to know who's still available at 20. Thats why, except for the very top picks, most trades are done during the draft.

Get a #20 pick and one's options greatly expand....

Side note: 10 paragraphs into the article before anything close to addressing what the title indicates the article is about???

How an author builds supporting information and facts is relevant to how that author wishes the topic to be seen...so, one didn't like the style?

He's never played on a team with defense that dominants, though very early in his career they had some decent ones a couple of years. Night and day pressure-wise.

Say you are right and Romo is worth a 3rd..... add that pick to a trade back from 28

34, 66 and 80 is way better than just 20....it is not even close

IMHO the Broncos just spent a #1 pick on a qb and still have Simien. They are going to give both a chance before dolling out picks for Romo. Houston, not so sure but trading for Romo would mean losing a pick and tying up nearly 40 million for one position. Question is, do you trade for Romo who might have 2-3 years left, or do you make a play at Garappolo who could be the qb for the next 10 years. Maybe just wait for Kapp or Cutler, who wont cost a draft pick, to hit the market and sign them on the cheap and just let that D take over.

Dont the Texans draft 25? No way would I do that deal going from 28 to 25 for Romo. With Denver (20th pick) + 4-5th rounder I would.
