Could have had Crichton & Nix

Fairly decent record lately when they target a specific player with the exception of Claiborne but the ship hasn't sailed on him yet either.

I don't think they targeted Claiborne. I think they received the trade up offer as opposed to seeking it out.

they had arranged the trade the day before as a contingency. He was their highest rated defender. I hope they targeted him just like I hope they targeted Clowney.

The way it fell would most probably take Kony Ealy/Will Sutton or Stephon Tuitt/Kareem Martin over Demarcus Lawrence.

They really wanted the the RDE, and didn't feel there were any others left after DLaw. Crichton is seen as more a LDE and Nix doesn't fit our scheme.

They may all fit if the coaching staff isn't here after this year. :)

Waaah…all the gnashing of teeth during every draft.

Last night the Cowboys were geniuses, today they're idiots.

90% of the posters here were suicidal over the trade and subsequent drafting of Fred and Williams and now, they're likely anchors of the offense.

Might Lawrence be a bust? Of course, but can we at least let him get to the freaking city of Dallas first before declaring him and/or the trade a failure?

All I'm saying is simmer down a bit…

If we didn't trade up and stayed put, we could have grabbed Crichton @47 and Nix in the 3rd.

Not sure how I feel about this. Did we make the right move?

There is a guy named Justin Ellis that I expect to go in the 4th round. He is the identical size as Nix and is a little quicker but not quite a strong. If they were going to go with a 330+ type DT, he would be at least as good of a fit as Nix and probably better.

I thought it was part of an aggressive move to replace both corners in one shot with him and Carr. Hasn't worked out as good as anyone wanted yet but they swapped out Jenkins and Newman with the 2 best available which would probably have made the headlines as an ingenious move if the Pats or some other team with a winning record had done it.

My primary point is that they didn't go into that draft with Claiborne a top target, but they were offered a trade that was not too expensive and they decided to go up and get him.

I've never heard that. Not saying it didn't happen that way just that I didn't hear it.

If we were a Demarcus Lawrence away from a championship, I wouldn't mind the trade. But there are so many holes on this dl that we needed to add bodies with a chance to become good. It wouldn't shock me if they go completely away from the dl the rest of the way.

We were a bad defense with the future hall of famer Demarcus, I don't see the rookie Demarcus making us instantly better.

we badly need solid and DEPENDABLE players on the DL,right now we have a bunch of guys coming off major surgeries and many of them may be no good this year.

With that as the options I'm more than happy with the trade for Lawrence. He isn't going to start, but he is going to be a great nickel rusher next year and a 10-12 sack per season guy for a lot of years on this team. A lot of positions have to be filled with high draft picks or extremely expensive free agents. If we got a real edge rusher in exchange for a 2nd and 3rd round pick its a trade you make every time you get the chance.

I think most are trying to relate to name recognition more that evaluations from people in the business...I trust we made the right decision as we did last year

Not upset at the name .. upset at how we didn't get fair value for the trade.

Oh I forgot ... 34 is ALMOST a first rounder. roll eyes

We were in a bidding war with ATL who also wanted Lawrence...that throws "fair value" out the window if it's the player you want....
