The way it fell would most probably take Kony Ealy/Will Sutton or Stephon Tuitt/Kareem Martin over Demarcus Lawrence.

Broaddus said that Tuitt was a 5 didn't fit the scheme and he was a fail medically.
I've heard Mickey talk about Martin looking amazing at the Senior Bowl with super long arms and then played horribly. He gave the old looks like Tarzan plays like Jane line. Ealy and Sutton are both inside rushers in pass rush situations.

If we were a Demarcus Lawrence away from a championship, I wouldn't mind the trade. But there are so many holes on this dl that we needed to add bodies with a chance to become good. It wouldn't shock me if they go completely away from the dl the rest of the way.

We were a bad defense with the future hall of famer Demarcus, I don't see the rookie Demarcus making us instantly better.

I've come in off the ledge a little bit and along with xwalker and a few others, I feel like Ken Bishop or Justin Ellis can still come in the 4th and be an immediate updgrade on the dline. Yes I know that we could have ALSO had that 3rd pick but let it go and move on... I'm not as sold on Lawrence as some others but in Rod I trust.

We got the guy we wanted. What else do you need to know?

That's tortured logic, considering that you could say the exact same thing if we had traded up the entire draft to get Lawrence. Yeah, it cost us four firsts, our firstborn child and our dignity, but we got the guy we wanted!

For my part, "I need to know" that our team's management is acting as good stewards of limited assets. We can still be excited about Lawrence and be disappointed that the team paid roughly the same compensation to move up in the second this year (in a deep draft) that we received in compensation for trading down in the first last year (in a shallow draft). Those kinds of decisions come back to haunt you.

Thinking the trade was lousy execution doesn't mean we're not excited about rooting for Demarcus.

I've moved on, there's nothing to do about it now.

Crichton is more fit for the right-hand side, where several Cowboys can play. Lawrence was the better choice for the left.

Not a Nix fan.

Exactly. Got a good player but simply gave up too much. Hopefully it will work out like the Frederick pick did last year.

We lost a fifth also? I thought it was "Just" a Third Rounder....

We have a 5th. We don't have a 6th. I'd like to see them package a couple of those tradeable 7ths to get into the 6th round. I'd be really surprised if they make 6 selections in the 7th round.

We were not going to take Nix so he was never in the equation.
It was reported, before we drafted Lawrence, that Crichton had a neck issue,..dont think it would take him off our board but he was not the guy they wanted as they viewed him as a strong side DE instead of Weak Side DE like Lawrence. The neck issue may have sealed the deal.

However I get your point.
You could have had two quality players vs one.

Just remember that we lost our WeakSide DE in Ware. About the only one on the roster now that they could consider moving over there MIGHT be Selvie. The only other weak side DE this team liked in the draft that was available to them was Attaouchu. They liked Lawrence better so they went with it.

I think the remembered missing out on Unger a few years ago when they did not move up to get him.
I think they learned in the front round when they sat still hoping to get Shazier and he went before them.

Again I get what you are saying and I hated OVERpaying to move up.

It is what it is.

the trade value turned out so poorly, I think we could of done better just reaching for Lawrence at 16.

Had we taken Lawrence at 16. A ton of dl choices were around at our spot in the second, and a few decent guards were around in the third. we would of lost some position flexibility, but nailed three starters in a deep draft.

For instance, standing pat and reaching could of yielded: Lawrence, Jernigan or Ealy, Trai Turner or Gabe Jackson

Totally get the thought process but there are real questions on Ealy and Jernigan. I like Turner and Jackson but IMO but guys are essentially what we have in Leary. I get the math of 3 players being better than one, but I think it came down to getting two first round picks they had rated as a top ten and a top twenty rather than the top twenty, a DL with question marks - plus an OG that may or may not beat out but definitely won't beat out Martin.
