Could losing vs Detroit be a blessing in disguise?

Let me start by saying this:

I want Dallas to beat Detroit Saturday night. Badly.

But let's say we lose.

And let's say Philly beats Arizona the next day to clinch the NFC East.


That means we'd be locked into the 5th seed.

Which means we could treat our Week 18 game at Washington like a "bye week" of sorts, rather than playing that game to win and risking injury to our key starters right before the playoffs.

With our luck, they might even give us the Saturday night game for Wild Card weekend.

If we're being honest with ourselves, it's pretty unlikely the Eagles drop one of their final 2 games (vs Arizona, at NYG). So Dallas winning out will most likely not affect our playoff seeding.

Again: I want to win Saturday and keep the pressure on Philly. Beating good teams helps keep the team's confidence high and I hate the idea of potentially entering the playoffs on a 4-game losing streak.

But at the end of the day, is "confidence entering the playoffs" more important than "being as healthy as possible entering the playoffs"? It's certainly debatable.

Just offering a sliver of a silver lining in case the Lions ruin our NYE weekend.

I may be wrong but if Philly drops a game and Dallas wins 2 it’s a second seed for Dallas

No, we need to counter the tendency to late season collapse this team has had for several seasons in a row. They need to win the last two regardless of what is or isn't at stakes seeding wise.

Yes. I posted this almost 6 weeks ago. If it helps the lions achieve a higher seeding - which is a big if, there is absolutely some positives to take from that.

Sounds like you’re expecting Dallas to drop their 3rd straight game to a good team and you’re trying to justify it as a “blessing in disguise” to cope.

Dallas is really good at home this season.... With a huge chance to get the 2 seed, Dallas needs to go all out to win some home games for the playoffs.

If San Fran trips up in the playoffs, Dallas would have home field throughout the playoffs

I agree 100% that would also most likely mean we get to draft ahead of Detroit and possible even Cleveland next year.

We created our own faith and now chasing a long shot is not in our best interest. Getting healthy for the playoffs should be priority #1.

Even as the number 2 seed. We still would need to beat San Fran in SF.

Agreed.

It appears the Cowboys - who at this point should have zero confidence in their ability to defeat any foe they may meet in January - need all the practice they can get while they try to shed the stench of losing two straight winnable games.

Philly lost 2 of their 3 last year, then reached the Super Bowl.

Kansas City, however, won their last 5 and then won the Super Bowl.
