Could losing vs Detroit be a blessing in disguise?

Let me start by saying this:

I want Dallas to beat Detroit Saturday night. Badly.

But let's say we lose.

And let's say Philly beats Arizona the next day to clinch the NFC East.

That means we'd be locked into the 5th seed.

Which means we could treat our Week 18 game at Washington like a "bye week" of sorts, rather than playing that game to win and risking injury to our key starters right before the playoffs.

With our luck, they might even give us the Saturday night game for Wild Card weekend.

If we're being honest with ourselves, it's pretty unlikely the Eagles drop one of their final 2 games (vs Arizona, at NYG). So Dallas winning out will most likely not affect our playoff seeding.

Again: I want to win Saturday and keep the pressure on Philly. Beating good teams helps keep the team's confidence high and I hate the idea of potentially entering the playoffs on a 4-game losing streak.

But at the end of the day, is "confidence entering the playoffs" more important than "being as healthy as possible entering the playoffs"? It's certainly debatable.

Just offering a sliver of a silver lining in case the Lions ruin our NYE weekend.

This is Jimmy Johnson’s ROH induction game. Remember how we closed out the final game at Texas Stadium? We lost to the Ravens. It was sad, at least for me as a fan knowing that stadium deserved better. So many memories!

Now, somewhat of a different scenario, but let’s hope the Cowboys win for Jimmy, and what was a glorious time to be had during his time with the Cowboys, and reverse the curse!

Beat a good team and get on a roll. No more backing into the playoffs!

The Giants are not good enough to beat Philly when the Eagles play poorly. And the Cardinals, with two four win teams right behind them are not going to risk not getting Murray a potential super star wide receiver, on a rookie contract, just for a late season win against a playoff bound team. They’ll compete. They won’t overdo it.
Giants played the Eagles close in Phili. Even Eagles fans were upset on how close the game was.

Lol huge chance really, it’s like 18 percent chance right now.
Philly could easily lose against Arizona or NY at NY.

Dallas would get the 2 seed.

As far as San Fran losing in divisional round is highly unlikely but if it happened and Dallas took care of business, that's homefield through out playoffs

Until seed 1/2 are locked we need to keep winning if we have any kind of shot to get home games in the playoffs

Interesting dilemma. I can't call it. You make good points. And like you say, it's debatable. I actually see both sides. So, either way, I'm good. I think this team has it in them to go deep into the playoffs.

Having it in them doesn't mean flukes can't happen, or that there aren't any other good teams. There are several good teams. I just believe the Cowboys are one of them.

I want a win today though.

I really don't give Jerry much credit for winning SB's prior to salary cap. Herschel Walker trade, Jimmy Johnson idea, was the catalyst.
If it wasn't for Jerry, Jimmy Johnson would have never fired Landry and coached the Cowboys. So, we'd likely have less SB wins than 5.

People forget who made the decision to hire Johnson.
