Could Okie State leapfrog Alabama?

If the Cowboys have a convincing win this Saturday - and yes I realize that's a big if - does anyone think they may leapfrog Alabama? They will almost certainly pass Alabama in the computer polls since Okie State's strength of schedule and strength of victory would be more impressive.

Could they possibly gain enough in the people polls to pass Alabama? If enough voters oppose an all-SEC title game or oppose a non conference winner from getting in then Okie State stands a chance.

Okie Lite will NOT get past Big Brother, so there is no need to even have the discussion. ;)

No, I don't think Okie St can jump Bama. Now if Georgia absolutely crushes LSU, then maybe LSU falls down far enough for the Cowboys to get into the title game if they beat the Sooners in convincing fashion. I don't see LSU getting blown out. Oklahoma St blew their chance by losing to Iowa St.

Nope...no shot. Oklahoma losing to Baylor hurt OK State's chances

I think he was speaking in the sense that the Baylor loss was the most recent one. In other words, if OU lost to Baylor in October and TX Tech 2 weeks ago, he'd have said "TX Tech" instead.

At least that's my interpretation. But fact is that OSU would be better off if OU still had just the 1 loss instead of now having 2.

Yeah but at least Baylor is a respectable opponent, it's not a shock to lose to them in 2011, Tech is having a very bad year with injuries and play.

If OU had not lost to Baylor, it would've set up two 1-loss teams (and for sure Top-5 in the rankings) playing each other and if OK State won, that would've been a VERY attractive way to finish the season. With OU at 2 losses now, beating them, even by a wide margin, just won't give them the boost they would need.

#3 in the BCS beating #10 in the BCS while #2 is idle?

Yeah, I think there is a VERY high possibility. Nothing certain, but a strong possibility.

Oklahoma State would have to jump Stanford and Virginia Tech in the human polls as well as taking about half of Alabama's 2nd place votes away. There is too much ground to cover in just one game.

I don't think it is. Consider the following...

Yes they are #5 in the 2 human polls. But they are still curently #3 in the BCS. This is because 2 of the 6 computers already have them at #2, and Stanford/VT don't really have an overwhelming lead over them.

So if OSU beat OU, then they may yet take over more of the computers and get to #2 via the computers.

And keep in mind that Stanford and Bama are both idle this next week, so they wont be gaining helping their own cases. And VT (who the computers hate) rematches Clemson, so a big part of this whole thing will be whether or not people/computers find a neutral site win over Clemson or a home win vs OU to be more impressive.

Also, as far as the human polls go, take into consideration that there may be some people that don't like the idea of Bama or Stanford, two teams that aren't even in their conference championships playing in the BCS championship.

Just saying, it could happen.

Stanford might well miss a BCS bid because of alignment formatting of bowls, at present they'd be going to the Alamo Bowl.

That's pretty much how I feel. The sad fact of the matter is that voting isn't always taken terribly seriously week in and week out, but next week's vote will have everyone knowing that whom they put at #2 will go a long way towards determining who plays LSU. I think OSU could easily pick up some votes from people who are sick of the SEC or who don't want a non-conference winner to play in the championship game.

OSU is being punished (quite unfairly) for the fact that their loss is so recent.

Huh? I just don't see that as a remote possibility. Besides the fact that they are the #3 team in the nation, they have a top flight marquee player that bowl games love to host. There's no way they don't get an at-large invite. Fans of the Cardinal can make their flight reservations to Glendale.

According to a couple of the bowl projections that's where they'd stand if the bowls were announced today, PAC 12's number 2 versus Big 12's number 3.

All depending on whether or not a BCS wants the Luck glitz, but because Stanford can't win the PAC 12 this is a real scenario.

There is absolutely no question they get an at-large.
