He has game and a strong skill set. His issue has been staying on the field. But then again he went unclaimed all year on the practice squad. Assuming he's now 100% healthy I'm expecting him to be a key contributor.

Yes, and Matt Johnson might be 100% too. You can NOT count on somebody who has been injured for the past 4 years. The number one ability is availability.

I can agree with you on this. He has had injury issues and for a RB that is almost a death knell.
The coaches seem to see something in him and paid him extra to stay another year so we'll
see this summer if he can stay on the field and move up the depth chart behind this
massive OL. If he can't, then he will be moved and another RB will be brought in.

Tons of players go undrafted and are cut from multiple teams before they are given a chance to show what they are capable of.

At least at one point Williams was a 2nd round draft pick.

I remember that draft and the Cowboys had him ranked higher than Murray and I think they would have taken him in the second round if Arizona didn't

I know. I came on a little harsh but as much as I would like to see him come through too you just can't count on him to be healthy.

You're just being realistic. I also think, based on Broaddus, that the Cowboys are developing
a summer/training camp plan to trade for a "Bellcow" RB should they be able to work a deal
with another team. I think Jerry has committed to going all in such that the team has
a fair chance to win it all for Romo this year. Nothing will be left to chance to get to the dance.

Why do you think they're waiting for the summer? They want to give these guys a chance to show whether or not they are capable of handling this themselves.

There is a lot of talent on the roster, and if healthy, perhaps they can do some things.

Its been interesting to hear whats come out about the HB. They said they what they have, but their has also been numerous reports of them being interested in adding someone. They even said themselves they were interested.

I think the truth is a little of both. I think they like what Randle and McFadden bring to the offense. I think McFadden is veiwed as a 3rd down guy and not a serious starting HB. I think that is a role he can thrive in. I think they veiw Randle as a possible starter, but preferably a 50/50 workload guy. I think Williams is a flier and most likely a guy they cut and bring back during the season if injuries hit. Its always good to have a guy on the street that knows your playbook. Dunbar I think they may keep if he made strides. There is talent there, but too many liabilities. He could stick if we go 4.

I think most likely they trade for a compliment to Randle. Probably a power type back. Alot depending on availability. I think they best quality player they may go for is Lamar Miller, who would be the main guy. Khyri Robinson is a guy I can see them looking at as well, and he would likely be more of a compliment to Randle

Can you name me an RB in history that has had injury and confidence issues since his sophomore year in college finally having the light come on and becoming superman in his 5th season in the league?

There are no comparisons for Williams. There's one thing to go from team to team because teams overlooked talent, it's an entirely different thing when it's due to injury.

Things happen differently all the time. This isn't the type of thing you look for precedence for. He either makes the turn or he doesn't.

I think the Cowboys are committed to giving these guys a chance to succeed even into
training camp. I think the coaches will know by then if they have someone in the group
that can be counted on behind this line. As we get closer to the season, teams will have
injuries and needs that make trading for a player much more likely and agreeable. I think
they will see what they have and strike before the season opener if they see a need.

Knowshon Moreno might be a decent comparasion. He had talent but never really got a chance due to injuries and competition until his 4th year in the league. Sure that was his only good season but I'll be happy to get 1,000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving from Williams if he does win the job.

I hope Williams turns into something special. However he hasn't been relevant to his team since 2009. That was the only productive season he has had since high school football.

I don't think we can put our super bowl hopes on any players that could be thought of as a secret weapon. Who are we the Bucs or Jaguars?

The title of the thread confused me this early in the morning: R Williams the receiver or R Williams the safety?

They must have been talking about Ricky Williams the runner who loved pot so much he quit playing
and wants to make a comeback.

Wasn't there a report that there were multiple offers to sign Williams during the season, but he declined for a shot with us?

If (and it's a big if) he can stay healthy I don't see why he couldn't be a good back still. He had all the talent in the world at Va Tech. I'm excited to see Williams this pre-season. I'm not expecting him to win the job, but it is in the realm of possibility
