McFadden scares me as well and the real scary part is I have more trust in him and any of the other RB on the current roster. I at least know he will not get my QB killed since I know he is good at picking up the blitz. I know he is good at coming out of the back field and making plays. His running he is capable of taking it the distance but also not hard to bring down. I think you get into situations where you need to grind it out I'm not sure he can do it. Then there is the health issue.

Yep. The most important ability a player needs to have - availability.

You started with an inaccurate representation of Ryan Williams, since he was neither injury not confidence plague from his sophomore year in college, and you went from there. Thomas Jones, though, is actually a reasonable comparison for what Williams upside might be. He didn't have the significant single injury that Williams has dealt with, but he did come into the league in AZ, very highly regarded, was plagued with injury problems, bounced around before he got to the Bears where his career really took hold. That's pretty much the high water mark for what we might expect for Williams, if we're lucky.

I realize you've got a lot emotionally invested in none of the backs on this current roster being capable of carrying a full workload. The reality is, they each have significant question marks, and I'm not sold on any of them, either. But you've leapt to some really unsupported conclusions about Ryan Williams, and you're trying to spread it from thread to thread. He doesn't have confidence problems. He did have a very significant injury which took him a long time to overcome and put an end to the high potential he had coming out at Arizona. His pass protection has not been good enough, and he has had to work on STs because he gave nothing in that area coming out of college. That's the book on Williams. The stuff you're trying to project about his confidence or his injury history is unnecessary, and it's not accurate.

And, my personal favorite:

I've told you in other threads on this topic. You really need to do more homework on this player, because he's not what you're characterizing him to be. If he doesn't make it in the league, it's not going to be because of a confidence problem. If you haven't seen it yet, just listen to him talk. You can hear in his voice that he believes in himself and that he believes in the opportunity he's got in Dallas.

To his credit, Mattjames did give you a link. However, I agree with you. I've heard other athletes say they were concerned about how their damaged knees, legs, etc., would hold up once they got back on the field.

I think that's normal.
The link referenced the time within about a year of tbe injury. All players are "scared" coming back from a severe injury.

He tried to imply that this was a current issue.

Well, I've heard athletes express concerns all the way up until game day when they actually take a "hit" on the previously injured body part.

Be that as it may, both sides made good points. I'm taking a wait-and-see look, but I feel the Cowboys see something in Ryan Williams that none of us can see because we aren't insiders.

I, personally, expect him to contribute significantly in the running game.

Thanks for the additional information on RW. I'm going to go back and read the link in its entirety as I too believe (this being the operative word) RW will make a contribution to this team in a big way.

Yeah, I think we've all seen the video already, but it's pretty good for anybody interested in this guy who hasn't heard it yet. He's an easy guy to root for.

Williams would be great if he can only remain healthy. That is a big, big IF.

Its like having a Ferrari in your garage with 4 flat tires. It ain't going anywhere.

I like Williams potential and I hope he gets that chance to prove his worth. But were in the mist of a superbowl run. Now is not the time to put a lot of risk into injured players like Williams and McFadden. Cowboys should already be looking for runningbacks that can carry the load and with a proven record.

Despite what Romo says about getting younger. Well, he really isn't getting any younger.

Exactly...............you don't take chances on guys like Williams and McFadden to "see what they got left" when you are to be making a SB run.

The current SB champs made a championship run using that exact strategy. Veldheer and Blount oh my.

You must be talking about the Patriots RBBC juggernaut:

Shane Vareen - 96 carries, 391 yards, 4.1 avg. 2 TDs
Lagarrette Blount - 125 carries, 547 yards, 4.4 avg., 5 TDs.

Wow how can we possibly miss out on the opportunity to be just like the Patriots?

Jerry needs to stop this nonsense of what got us into the playoffs last year and we should go for broke and be just like the Patriots. The Superbowl champs know a thing or two about how to run the ball more than we do.

Offensively I have heard Garrett talking about trying to be multiple and beat offenses multiple ways. I think that us running that much had as much to do with struggles in pass protection as it did with Murray's success. We were inconsistent to bad at picking up blitzes stunts and the like and Romo got killed despite teams fearing the run.

When the Pats had Corey Dillon they ran him 350 times for 1600 yards. He promptly tanked. We've acquired TE to the angst of many. Offensively both scheme and personnel-wise we are more like the Patriots than the Seahawks.

Defensively, Marinelli and crew have definitely emulated SEattle's cover 3.

And they beat Beastmode and won the SB nevertheless. All you are doing here is underscoring the lack of significance in what you are claiming.

Being like the Patriots is about long term sustainability and not about going for it in any particular year.

Correction. Brady beat Seattle. Brady got Patriots in the playoffs. Their entire team revolves around Brady and not their running.

Stop making it as though their running game is an integral part of their offense. Its not. Thus their runningback stats speak for themselves.

They didn't win game because of their running. They won because of Brady. Get it?

LOL we ran the ball because of Garrett wanted it. Linehan agreed and saw the plays drawn up by Callahan. Then everything else just fell into place.

Garrett wanted to go back to the way of the 90s and play smashmouth football and had nothing to do with our oline's inabilities to pass protect. Frankly, thats one the most silliest ideas that I've ever heard.

I can't even see Jerry saying "thank God we can't pass protect. That allowed up to run more."

YOu are right my friend, you have to do both pass protect and run block. And I think this OL of ours this year will do both.

I think this oline is not only built to run the ball, but its also built to pass protect. Heck, we say glimpses of Romo having all day in the pocket. Were going to seeing a lot more of those this year in IMO.

Totally agree, I think this could be the best OL ever in football. I love getting Collins. Wouldn't it be great to have 4 all-pro OL on the Cowboys. Go Cowboys :starspin:
