What do you care about with regards to a football season? Do you care about stats, or do you care about Super Bowls. Because when we finally win a Super Bowl, the stats guys can go away.

I hate stats, but as stats go, those were tremendous.

I thought Romo deserved serious consideration for MVP that year. He was phenomenal. If Murray could have finished the umpteen breakaway runs he had, that team could have gone further.

To answer the OPs question...yes, I think it could be possible that 9 could be gun shy on his return. However, he is such a tough competitive guy that I think he will not back down from any contact.

I think a number of people mistake Romo "collapsing before contact and just taking a sack" for him being gun shy. In actuality, it is a sign of maturity in his play. Take the sack instead of forcing a bad play or taking an unnecessary hit. The "live to see another down" philosophy. Both Mannings do/did it. Tom Terrific/TB12 does it as well. At times you see him extend the play but that occurs when he takes "time and score" into account. His decision making even when it comes to when to take a hit or not, or when to make a tight throw or not, or when to extend a play or not has improved drastically. Hence why he has 43 TDs to 16 Ints in his last 21 games played. That includes the pick heavy Carolina game on Turkey Day and the San Fran game of 2014.

It's possible for him to be gun shy...but I doubt it very seriously since the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior...as the old maxim goes.

C'mon. His last full season was ridiculous.

13-5
70% completion
34 TD
9 int
113.8 QB rating

I want to see him play again fully healthy before we turn the next 15 years over to Dak.
2014 in football years is a long time ago, I'd like to see what he can do too, but when will he be that 2014 Romo again, maybe never. It's hard to have a preseason game in the middle of a playoff run to see what he has left, we just need to see how this all plays out.

I'll give you one guess why he didn't win the MVP. His playoff success.

This isn't a knock or meant in a bad way towards Tony.

Isn't it possible after the last couple of seasons, with all the injuries Romo has suffered, could it possibly lead him to be somewhat gun shy? These injuries have been pretty painful to endure, I don't think he can stand in there knowing a big hit is coming and just ignore what he's been through....and not affect his decision making.

Most people think that Tony...once healthy, can just pickup where he left off, what say you?
Hey..

Good point.

He had trouble sliding correctly and got injured in the Seattle pre-season game..

he was rusty at that and look what happened.

I'm sure one of the tests he will have to pass is to show he can do a slide without injury..

that's got to be at least a month away again.

If Tony were truly gunshy, then he'd have learned to throw the danged ball away when a play breaks down.

He was never gun shy but after the recent injuries he's suffered he's bound to be a little apprehensive now. We may never find out.

Who knows? It's hard to say, but he's had nasty injuries before and they didn't make him gunshy.

I guess we will find out when he returns. I don't think he is but clearly he will have to prove it

The other injuries he had never caused him to miss the number of games he's missed the past two seasons. It's these broken bones he's been suffering that have to be a little concerning. After what he's been through the past two seasons missing 18 games and counting, he's bound to be tentative if he ever sees the field again. It's been almost a year since he played in a regular season game.

I would imagine he would be somewhat apprehensive about taking hits after all he's been through. This could lead to rushed throws and turnovers.
that's my fear also, which could really impact his game going forward.

his injuries have been broken collarbones, broken bones in the back...back surgeries, these injuries are a bit more frightening than a knee or leg injuries.

I'd say there's about a zero percent chance Tony Romo has become gunshy.

And for a thread that's not supposed to be a knock on Tony in any way, it sure went away from gunshy and right to his injuries pretty quick, OP.

I didn't knock Tony, and for the most part neither did anyone else, but for you to say zero chance isn't that a knock in the other direction?

Saying Romo has zero chance of being gunshy is not remotely a knock on anybody. The dude's as tough as it gets and stands in and takes his shots. So I happen to think the point you're raising is a complete non-issue.

There are other issues with Romo I'd agree with are things to pay some attention to. His willingness to take a hit is literally maybe the last thing I'm worried about with him.

And you might say you're not knocking him, but I'd consider questioning whether his strengths have become weaknesses before pivoting back to the injury concerns yet another time to be knocking him, whether you qualify it first, or not. Just my $.02.
