Could Sam Hurd emerge?

I'm still shocked and awed by the emergence of Miles Austin. I'm just wondering, could it be possible that we have two sleepers on this team with just as much talent as one another? Hurd looked pretty comfortable in his limited time out there. Any chance he comes to, or near, the level of play Austin has reached?

I've always seen Hurd as a possesion wideout for some reason, doesn't have the break neck speed but has decent hands from what i've seen in limited exposure

Since Austin is obviously good and I've become high on Ogletree, it seems downright silly to predict a third undrafted gem at the position LOL. But I do think Hurd is an underrated player to a degree. He was a showstopper at training camp by all accounts and, like Austin, has battled injuries over the years.

The one thing that bothers me about him -- that has no real bearing on anything -- is his odd, wiry frame and funny running style. He reminds me of Olive Oil out there.

Didn't they rave about Hurd and say he has the best hands on our team in training camp?

no. he can emerge on the bench as our 4th WR anything more is like trying to pump up crayton as a #2, which he isnt but is a perfect fit as our #3 in the slot.

I like Hurd and believe he is substantially more comfortable in the Dallas offense than Roy Williams at this stage. Romo-to-Williams remains one of the most awkward (dis)connections I've seen this season. It's almost like a very bad blind date.

I have no problem with WR sets that include Sam as an option. Trot him out there and see what he has.

That's what we did today, and I couldn't help but notice a glimpse of "big-time talent", even if it was for just a snippet of the game. It was just a glimpse, but I saw something in him that resembled a confident player and I think that's all we need to get past the Eagles--a difference maker to get us over the hump; to take the lead.

It was sort of sneaky on our part, talking about Ogletree then sending Hurd out there. But I liked it and I saw something. I could be wrong tho. I just think he looked good and in preseason I thought he was performing better than Austin, so who knows. There may be chemistry there or chemistry developing that us laymen fans don't know about.

Unlikely? Probably.... Possible, tho? Yes.

I missed my second game in a row. But I did see the highlight of Sam Hurd streaking down the sideline and stretched the ball out for the TD. I loved it.

Sam definitely will help this offense. Sam was just one of ten who caught the ball.

His odd, wiry frame is sort of what draws me towards him. That, and his silky smooth, soft hands. :p:

When Romo said that we've got 4 or 5 WRs that he's "very comfortable with", I believed him.

Hurd has good hands and runs good routes. I'm never surprised when he makes a big play for us in his limited opportunities.

We have pretty solid depth at the WR position and contrary to popular belief, I don't think we'll need to spend a high draft pick on a WR in 2010. Especially now that Austin has emerged like he has.

I think that our franchise QB that everyone is ready to run out of town makes our receivers look better than they really are. Sam Hurd is a prime example, he couldn't beat Hos in a foot race and doesn't do anything particularly special, he's JAG - but our offense has so many mismatches that when you're number is dialed up you can make plays.

Hurd is a hard worker and has progressively gotten better here in Dallas, but I don't expect him to ever be higher than 4 on any team's depth chart.

Hurd is small, slow and hs only so-so quickness. However, he is smart and has good hands. He is the sort of guy who could be good against zone defenses - knowing how and when to move into soft parts of the zone. I don't think he will ever fare well as one of 2 WRs in a standard pro set against man coverage. It would be great if he could develop into a Steve Smith style possession WR though. I do think he has done enough to deserve some more reps - take some away from Roy to allow this. I also agree that we need to get Otree some more reps to see what he has - I love his burst and I do think he is going to become a starter for some team - maybe not ours if RW emerges out of his funk.

I see Hurd more of a slot receiver, and yes, he could emerge in that role. I don't know about being a #2 receiver however. He just doesn't seem to have that stature.

That's his measurables, but his appearance is indeed wiry. I don't care how he looks if he keeps making plays like the one yesterday.

He doesn't look that "thick" on the field, though - looks like a string bean.

Austin is only listed at 214 isn't he? Be comparison he looks like much "thicker" our there and runs smoothly and powerfully. Hurd looks kind of all "gangly" with limbs flying akembo out there.

Hurd's defintiely alot bigger than he was the first couple of yrs he was in the league, when he truly was skinny.
