Could Trevon Diggs be a surprise cut?

He has a long recovery ahead of him, over 8 months. Have heard the word microfacture regarding his latest injury. Team was unhappy the way he rehabbed from his prior acl tear. Add in there is an out in his contract. Speculation at this point, but something to watch closely.

Doubt it. They need to let him heal then trade him if they can and that may require leaving him on ir until the 2026 off-season. Trade him before the draft to a possible contender or the browns lol.

Any coach who watches the tape that man put out there would send him packing pretty fast. Our 82 year old clown show doesn't even know what all 22 means. We are stuck with this guy for at least 2 more years of misery.

I'm not 100% up to date on the rules the last few years, but I would assume its still difficult for the Cowboys to cut a player like Diggs without being medically cleared. I believe Diggs would have to agree to an injury settlement which I assume would have to be pretty large given this is only year 1 of his 5 year agreement. It might be tricky for both sides to agree on a number even if the Cowboys wanted to cut him.

It’s a possibility I would consider because the cap savings might be worth more than hoping he heals right at his price. Besides, if I was going to keep and pay one corner, I might prefer Deron Bland.

Btw, those saying we could trade him - not likely. Because his contract would scare most teams away. And the offer in a trade would likely be very low if at all.

There is a 2025 exit clause in Diggs’ deal which makes his cap hit less. I think it’s worth considering.

They can’t cut him until he’s healthy. Otherwise they’d have to pay a settlement in addition to having a 12-13 million dead cap hit.

Considering he won’t be healthy until September, I think they’ll give him one more season. A move after next season seems likely though.

He has a 9mil injury guarantee for 2025, that would become fully guaranteed on 3/22.
Since he's injured and not likely to pass a physical on 3/21, IMO they will just keep him as his dead cap would be 13.25mil post june 1st vs 14.25 mil current hit.

In 2026 there's zero guaranteed money left.

An injury settlement means he would get paid and not have to play football. He would slurp that up so fast it would give him brain freeze. But as previously discussed zero chance he is gone. We for sure have at least two more reporter blow ups to look forward to after he gets called out for being a pansy.

Yep....he is protected due to injury. Speaking of injury settlements.......many on here don't remember or too young to know about Jimmy Smith (Jax WR). Too hurt with Dallas (Irvin/Harper), but once healthy, did a settlement with Dallas and went to Jax and became a star.

His salary is dead money no matter what. Here or somewhere else. Healthy of injured. All the same. Dead money.

Cowboys need to continue with his medical treatment......otherwise, that's a very bad look......a very bad look for FAs ever considering the Cowboys.

2025 a new team would pay Diggs $10M max if he earned his $1M game day bonuses
2026 a new team would pay Diggs $16.5M but none guaranteed. Could be cut with no dead money
2027 a new team would pay Diggs $20.5M but none guaranteed. Could be cut with no dead money
2028 a new team would pay Diggs $20M but none guaranteed. Could be cut with no dead money

So a team could look at it as 2 years $26.5M. That's not at all something that would scare a team away if they thought he'd be healthy and good

Jimmy Smith had not made any money yet. Diggs already got his bag. If Diggs was in Jimmy Smiths shoes you would see an entirely different person. Diggs has looked exactly the way I would expect a Diggs to look after he pockets 35 million guaranteed.

There will come a brief moment in time in the future when Diggs will look good again. It will be an 8 games stretch leading up to his next free agency. I felt bad for us for giving him the contract that we did. I will feel even worse for the team who gives him the next one.
