Could Trevon Diggs be a surprise cut?

I am not suggesting he lose any money. I am suggesting that he gets every penny he is due and he gets all of the expenses covered that he needs to come to a complete and full recovery. What I am suggesting is that we would be much better off moving on no matter the costs.
Not disagreeing with you. Just know, there's a lot in place that has to happen to simply cut him, as some may think is the immediate fix.

As for the organization not being pleased with his initial rehab........that's Dallas' own fault, not Diggs and simply doesn't make sense to me, and out before Cincy, in against Cincy, and now out for the season.

All good MyFairLady.

I wanted to trade him months ago. IIRC you were adamantly against it.

Not that there was any way it was ever going to happen. They collect players, pay the ones they like at the top of the market, then claim cap poverty as the reason for gaping holes on the rest of the roster.

They aren’t capable of tough decisions, or even recognizing what those even are.

As one small example, Jerry and his kid would never have even considered trading a player like Tyreek Hill, yet KC remains the class of the league on the field. These two aren’t qualified to compete in this league yet think they are great. It’s sad that there’s no hope in sight.
If he has a career threatening injury it is a different decision.

They can’t cut him until he’s healthy. Otherwise they’d have to pay a settlement in addition to having a 12-13 million dead cap hit.

Considering he won’t be healthy until September, I think they’ll give him one more season. A move after next season seems likely though.
I also think it's not enough of a savings for them to do it. They save less than $2 million against the cap next year to cut him. In 2026, they would save almost $8 million by cutting him, so it's more likely that we'll either restructure his deal then or move on from him. I can buy the argument, though, that if we're going to move on from him in 2026, why not in 2025 if he's not going to be able to play part of the year. But like you said, they'd have to deal with an injury settlement.

He has a 9mil injury guarantee for 2025, that would become fully guaranteed on 3/22.
Since he's injured and not likely to pass a physical on 3/21, IMO they will just keep him as his dead cap would be 13.25mil post june 1st vs 14.25 mil current hit.

In 2026 there's zero guaranteed money left.
Good point on the salary guarantee. Since it will kick in in March and we know he won't be healthy by then, that would add to the dead money hit.

Yeah I don’t see them eating 12 million
They are eating it no matter what. The question is do you want to keep him around. There is almost zero chance that he is a quality productive contributor next year. So you keep him around for 2025 anyway "for the future". Now it is 2026 and he is due 15 million in base salary after three consecutive years of nothing. Is that something you want to lock yourself into? What about the 20 million for 2027 or the 20 million for 2028? Zero chance those ever come to fruition. So why would we keep him?

Honestly the more I look at that contract the more I think we actually got away fairly unpunished. I don't think his agent did him many favors. Really only got a 42.3 million guaranteed over 2 years.

They aren’t eating it no matter what there’s a difference between having a starting caliber corner and not. He’s a solid corner. If the question is him or Bland then that’s a conversation worth having but cutting him for 2025 is looney.

He has a long recovery ahead of him, over 8 months. Have heard the word microfacture regarding his latest injury. Team was unhappy the way he rehabbed from his prior acl tear. Add in there is an out in his contract. Speculation at this point, but something to watch closely.
Him and Overshown cut from the same cloth!

If the Cowboys cut him his salary will be guaranteed and Jerry does not give that type of money away. The injury protects him but if he plays next season like this season he will be gone. Have a feeling this might be a Gallup situation and drafting a corner in first 3 rounds will be on the table.

I think Dallas needs to stop rushing injured players back to fast. I feel like its been a trend in Dallas for a long time. They bring back guys early and then when fans wonder why they struggle at times. But they will pay players coming off injury and then be in bad contract situation bc they rushing them back and they struggle. If someone is hurt, allow to fully recover before bringing them back and stop paying them on the contract year. Let them rehab and play out the year and then move forward. Let Diggs heal, rehab him and sit him out until he is ready.

....was mentioning similar in an earlier post. Certainly, raises eyebrows.

With Overshown’s future up in the air and DLaw likely gone with a few other free agents the Cowboys won’t be cutting Diggs. They’ll give him every opportunity to come back.

Probably should be, Jerry likes to extend obvious cuts.

He is undergoing surgery yet again. He will not be a starting caliber corner for this team next year. Planning on this is not smart. Moving on and making a real plan is smart.

This also could mean Bland gets an future extension.
