I'm sure you're at least partially right here, but I would suspect that "evaluating MM" is more trying to drive his price tag down at this point.Jerry is just using the time to evaluate MM and make his decision on whether to resign or go a different direction...not sure why so much vitriol on this one...Jerry is a businessman and he's using the contract protection to its full advantage...yes it sucks for MM and for us fans but as many have said this is the business aspect of football.
I have two issues with what Jerry is doing right now:
1) It really sets you back in the coaching search if you dont bring MM back.....Yeah there will always be decent HC names out there, but you have to fill out the rest of the staff too, and many of those names are going to be gone.
2) Other coaches see this situation too...Not that guys are going to boycott the Cowboys, but if a coach has options why would he go to the team that plays hardball with guys already on staff? Jerry has had a history of not letting coaches out of their contracts to look at other opportunities, but blocking guys who aren't even under contract in a couple weeks? Again this puts not only MM in a bad spot but everyone down the staff...
This is an outdated business philosophy we are seeing, and most reputable businesses in modern times who care at all about their employees over profits wont operate like this, and the longer it goes on the more Jerry is going to tarnish the reputation of the Cowboys within coaching circles. Not saying theyll struggle to fill any roles, there will still be a line of people wanting these jobs, but you wont get many A candidates.
