Any means of moving the ball and the chains, damn it is not all about passing, yes passing is important being 1 dimensional is not a good thing. Being able to be balanced does work and running game can play as big a part in an offense. I know you like to claim this is all about passing it is not, it is still football and running still can play a critical role for many offenses. Dallas has been very successful throughout the franchise history when they have been able to pass and run. When we become nothing more than a passing team we fail. You say pass defense to me you have to play quality defense run and pass. If you can’t stop the run teams will shove that ball down your throat and not have to put the ball up much. This is still football not madden where you throw in 99 percent of the time.
We've been round and round on this argument, so I've sort of given up on you representing my position accurately, but I've never said it's all about passing. I've always said that there are obvious running situations and every offense needs to execute them, because they're key to moving the chains. Running the ball also helps you avoid bad passing situations, which plays right into the passing effectiveness argument. I've never said that balance didn't work, because that would be silly. Balance works--when you're able to pass effectively. And if you can't, balance doesn't help you at all.
But my point above remains: you don't need to run the ball effectively in order to move the chains and control ToP. You can just run in in the running downs and distances and convert with an effective passing game and be perfectly effective. And passing the ball keeps the clock moving too, as long as you're completing plays. And if you're converting, the clock moves anyway. Sure, you score faster, but you can't make an argument that scoring more points faster is bad for the team overall, so it's moot.
