In your example Hos, you used your friend who started following those two teams ONLY because they were good, and in my opinion, he jumped on their bandwagon. Its an entirely different thing that he actually stayed on it at least.
That is not what a bandwagon is. I am sorry, but your definition is wrong and insulting towards people who do not deserve it.

him staying on the bandwagon is another thing altogether.
That's where you are wrong. If he stayed it is NOT a bandwagon.

My dad has been a fan since the early 70's and was raised on Cowboy Football, and the only place we've ever been is Los Angeles so we're naturally Laker Fans. OH WAIT IM A FRONTRUNNER GUYS MY BAD

Y'all wanna see a bandwagon fan look at this clown. Claims to be the #1 Laker fan. :laugh2:

snoopdogg4.jpg

In case y'all don't know the Celtics are the Lakers biggest rival before. They most recently played in a grueling 7 game series which we won. :D

This would be like a Cowboy fan wearing a Skins, Giants, or Eagles jersey.

every fan is a bandwagon fan.....we all jump on a team's bandwagon at some point in our life for various reasons......whether the team is good or bad. Now, instead of using bandwagon fan, we should be using fairweather fan. Are you a loyal fan or a fairweather fan? when you find yourself a seat on the bandwagon, do you ride it out till the destination ends, when you die......or do you get off at every stop, when the team is struggling?

I am a Cowboy and Yankee fan. I enjoyed watching Lakers early on when they were winning and didnt even watch basketball until Jordan.

So, not a fan of Lakers and Bulls BUT.... even if I was.... wouldnt it just make me "smart" that I like winners and not losers?

lmao

I couldn't disagree more with this.

I'm from Oklahoma and I live exactly an hour and ten minutes from Norman and the football stadium there.

I absolutely HATE OU.

I'm a nebraska fan, always have been, and always will be.

And no i;ve never been to nebraska and don't know anyone who went there. I simply loved them from the time I was a little kid and still do to this day.

Same thing with the Cowboys. I've been a fan since 1988 when I was old enough to even care at all about football. I've said this before, and I don't mind admiting it again, it wasn't any one player or anything that drew me to them. Hell I didn't even know they'd ever been good or won a Superbowl before when I started following them.

What drew me to them was The Star. I just loved The Star on the helmet and I've loved it till this day and will love it till the day I die.

So I've got to agree with Hos and several others here that your opinion of what a bandwagon fan is happens to be off base and I don't agree with it.

In theory, I hear what you are saying. However, it is IMPOSSIBLE to call any Cowboys fan a bandwagoner at this point. It has been SIXTEEN YEARS since the Cowboys have won a title. Heck, every single NFC team has been to a SB since the Cowboys last went, except for only three.

The Cowboys are still the most popular team, but it hasn't had much to do with winning in quite some time.

Perhaps it's just me, but I never understood the need to explain to someone else why I like the teams I like.

again, its not, its opinion, and again neither of us is wrong. If im wrong, please pull up a definition from a dictionary that states im wrong or you are right. ill save you the time, its not in there, and thats because again there is no black or white in this discussion, just a bunch of differing opinions

Look up the word and its etymology. I promise you that you are wrong.

i have, pretty much every definition you can find differs in some way, and thats why i still say the definition of the term varies from person to person and there really isnt any right or wrong as long as you arent going overboard with it.

Born and raised in Los Angeles so I am a Lakers, Dodgers, and USC Trojans fan.

Before I knew what any of those were I was a Cowboys fan.

So...ummmmm......no.

I'm from Indiana. We didn't have a "hometown" team until '84. Having been born in the early 70's, I was already a Cowboys fan. Yes, I could have been a Bears fan, or Bengals fan, maybe even a Packer or Cardinals fan. Those teams were closer but I liked the Cowboys.

And yes, I'm a Lakers fan (admittedly I don't watch pro BB much anymore). And though I am not much of a baseball fan, I try and keep somewhat aware of how the Cubs are doing. Yes, the Cubs....not the Yankees.

I dont get your premise. I have been a fan of both teams since I was 10, that is 40 years. I have been a front runner since elementary school? Thanks for filling me in, I definitely never would have figured this out.

Gonna have to jump in here and disagree.

I have been a Cowboys fan since mid 60's, because of WVU/Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley, ... thus my "user name".

I could have easily been a Lakers fan because of WVU great Jerry West, .. but I don't really have an NBA team. But had I been a Cowboys and Lakers fan it would have had nothing to do with being a frontrunner, just a WVU fan.

Anyway, your statement is just not true.
